REMCL Awards 10-Year Operations and Maintenance Contract to POWERCON for 26-Megawatt Rajasthan Wind Project
Rail Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) has awarded a long-term operations and maintenance contract to POWERCON for its 26-megawatt wind power project in western India, the companies announced on Tuesday. The contract, which became effective December 16, runs for 10 years and covers REMCL's wind farm located at Dangri in Jaisalmer.
REMCL is a public sector enterprise operating as a joint venture between India's Ministry of Railways and RITES Ltd. The company selected POWERCON through an open competitive bidding process and expects the partnership to improve energy yields and reliability at the facility.
Project Infrastructure and Equipment
The wind power project comprises 13 turbines of 2 MW each, all supplied by InoxWind. These turbines have completed their initial 10-year operating period under the original equipment manufacturer's service arrangement and are now entering the second half of their operational lifecycle.
The wind farm operates in a desert environment characterized by frequent sandstorms, high dust levels, and wide temperature variations. These challenging conditions require specialized technical capabilities and a performance-focused approach to asset management, according to the companies.

Two-Phase Implementation Strategy
POWERCON will execute the engagement through a structured two-phase approach. The first phase involves comprehensive technical assessments of wind turbine generators and unit substations, followed by remediation work to stabilize performance and safety systems.
The second phase will span the full 10-year contract term and focus on maintaining high availability, improving productivity, and extending asset life. POWERCON will carry out detailed technical diagnostics, address identified issues, and restore the turbines to optimal operating condition as they transition into their extended operational period.
POWERCON's Experience and Leadership
POWERCON's founder and chief executive, Praveen Kakulte, stated that the company would focus on disciplined execution and technical governance to enhance long-term performance at the facility. The company brings experience managing multiple turbine platforms, including AMSC-technology InoxWind turbines.
POWERCON currently works with various independent power producers, including Tata Power, NTPC, SJVN, ReNew, Apraava Energy, O2 Power, and Serentica. This diverse portfolio demonstrates the company's capabilities across different wind energy platforms and client relationships in India's renewable energy sector.
