Northern Solar Holdings Bhd has secured two letters of award to supply renewable energy from solar projects with a combined capacity of 189 megawatts (MW), coupled with battery storage systems, to two data centre projects.
The awards were received through its wholly owned subsidiary, Northern Solar Assets Sdn Bhd, and fall under the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), according to the group's filings with Bursa Malaysia on Monday, Nov 2.
Solar and BESS projects to supply two data centres
The first project involves a 100 MW solar facility with a battery energy storage system (BESS) to serve a data centre requiring 262.8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
The second involves an 89 MW solar facility, also equipped with BESS, for another data centre with an annual electricity requirement of 233.89 million kWh. Together, the two data centres have a combined annual electricity requirement of approximately 496.69 million kWh.
Details of the awarding parties kept confidential
Northern Solar did not disclose the value of either project or the identities of the awarding parties, citing confidentiality provisions.
The company only said that the first award was issued by a Malaysian company involved in property investment and data centre infrastructure, while the second award came from a Malaysian subsidiary of a Singapore-based data centre services operator.
The commencement dates for both projects have yet to be finalised, with further announcements expected upon the signing of definitive agreements. Northern Solar expects the projects to contribute positively to its earnings and net assets per share during their execution.

Part of a broader push into renewable energy asset ownership
The latest awards come as Northern Solar seeks to expand beyond its traditional solar engineering and construction business into owning renewable energy assets.
In September, Apex Securities said the group was finalising details of a potential 170 MW solar-plus-storage project under CRESS, which could accelerate its transition towards generating recurring income from long-term electricity supply agreements.
However, it remains unclear whether the two latest awards are related to the project previously highlighted by the research house.
Recent contract wins and order book
The announcement follows a string of contract wins for the group this year.
Northern Solar had also secured a USD 8.35 million contract in October to develop a 9.5 MW large-scale solar photovoltaic plant, bringing its total contract wins for the year at that point to USD 37.68 million. Its unbilled order book stood at USD 46.50 million as of end-June 2026.
