MISC Secures 12-Year Floating Production Unit Contract for Brunei Natural Gas Project
MISC Berhad has received a Letter of Award for the Provision of Lease, Operate and Maintain (O&M) of Floating Production Unit (FPU) for Natural Gas Development Project in Brunei from PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL). The landmark contract was secured through an international competitive bidding process and represents MISC's strategic entry into Brunei's offshore oil and gas market.
Contract Terms and Duration
The charter agreement spans a firm period of 12 years, with PCBL holding the right to extend for up to three additional one-year periods. This arrangement provides operational flexibility while ensuring long-term commitment to the project. The contract was awarded on December 9, 2025, marking a significant milestone for MISC's expansion into new markets.
Technical Specifications and Capacity
The FPU is designed with substantial production capabilities to support Brunei's natural gas development objectives. The unit features a production and processing capacity of 450 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) and 1,170 barrels of condensate per day. The facility includes a storage capacity of 300,000 barrels, ensuring operational flexibility throughout its deployment.
The FPU is engineered to deliver high operational efficiency and reliability throughout its deployment at the gas field. The technical specifications are designed to support sustained production and maximize value for stakeholders involved in the project.
Strategic Impact on Energy Supply
The FPU will be deployed at offshore Brunei, where it is expected to contribute to the long-term supply of feedstock for Brunei's LNG sector. This contribution supports the country's export commitments, national revenue generation, and energy security objectives. The project aligns with broader regional energy development goals and strengthens Brunei's position in the global LNG market.
The deployment represents a significant addition to the offshore infrastructure supporting Brunei's energy sector. The facility's capacity and design specifications position it to play a crucial role in maintaining consistent supply chains for the country's LNG operations.
