Morgan Sindall and Arup have secured the third installment of their GBP 1.1 billion building contract at Sellafield. The Infrastructure Strategic Alliance between the partners and client Sellafield Ltd has been renewed for another five years, till 2027.
The contract, which was first given in 2012 and was renewed in 2017, sees the corporations deliver critical infrastructure assets to the Cumbria nuclear power facility.
The contract is primarily for the delivery of utility assets, including electricity production, water supply, bulk chemical storage and distribution, and drainage networks, as well as civil and construction schemes like roads, bridges, parking lots, and general structures.
Analytical services facilities, transportation systems, a flask maintenance plant, and emergency management systems are also included.
The extension, according to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure managing director Simon Smith, is "another great opportunity" for the company.
"We can continue to work with local organizations and the community to help build sustainable local economic growth in addition to our role on the Programme and Project Partners partnership, which is also being delivered on the Sellafield site," he added.
Last year, Sellafield won 20-year contracts worth up to GBP 7 billion to decommission the huge complex, which will take 100 years to rehabilitate.
