Masirah Oil Limited (MOL), an indirect subsidiary of Singapore's Rex International, has begun drilling operations at the first well of an offshore infill campaign at the Yumna field in Block 50 off the coast of Oman.
The company stated that the campaign keeps it on track for first oil from the new well in November 2026. Mike Hopkinson, General Manager of Masirah Oil, said, "We expect production from the new well to start in November 2026."
Drilling contract signed in August 2026
Arabian Drilling signed a contract with Masirah Oil and Northern Offshore in August 2026 to drill two firm wells, in addition to two optional wells, in Oman. The current operations mark the start of work under that agreement.
Background on Block 50 and the Yumna field
The Yumna field is situated in Block 50, an approximately 17,000 square-kilometer offshore concession located in the Gulf of Masirah, east of Oman.
First oil at the block was achieved in February 2020. MOL, an indirect 87.5% subsidiary of Jasmine Energy Limited (JEL), is the sole owner of the Block 50 concession. Rex holds an 87.5% interest in Masirah following restructuring.

Field development milestones
The approval of the field development plan and the declaration of commerciality for the Yumna field were obtained in July 2020. The Yumna-2 well came online in January 2021, while Yumna-3 began production in February 2021.
The following year, the floating storage tanker was changed out to allow the tanker to remain in the field for several years without the need for dry-docking, and the mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) was also changed out with upgraded facilities in the same year.
Prior drilling campaigns
The 4Q 2022 drilling campaign consisted of a workover of the Yumna-3 well to replace the electrical submersible pump, along with the drilling of the Yumna-4 well, which was completed for production; the campaign was finished in early 2023.
MOL completed its multi-well program at Block 50 in 2024, which included the drilling of the Yumna-5 well that started production in April 2024, as well as workovers of three existing production wells; one more than originally planned.
Production optimization goals
Masirah Oil emphasizes that the production rate is being regularly optimized to maximize recovery from the field, establish viable long-term production, and substantially increase the oil reserves at the block.
