Madison Energy Infrastructure announced on October 26, 2026, a 50 MW / 200 MWh battery energy storage portfolio with CORE Electric Cooperative, spanning three sites in Colorado.

The Denver-based announcement marks the largest distributed energy storage deployment in Madison's history to date, with commercial operations expected to begin by September 2027.

Madison Advances Storage Projects With Tesla Megapacks

The projects will use Tesla Megapack technology and are among the first to be supported by Madison's USD 50 million agreement with Tesla, an agreement that positions the company to scale its storage deployments with dedicated equipment supply.

Supporting a Growing Distribution System

According to the announcement, the portfolio will support CORE Electric Cooperative's distribution infrastructure by adding capacity to meet growing electricity demand. The company cited load growth from new development and broader economic expansion as drivers of the partnership.

Distributed storage, Madison said, gives CORE a more flexible and cost-effective way to strengthen its system and respond to changing local energy needs. For the cooperative, the batteries are intended to help manage peak demand, control power costs, and maintain reliable service as electricity consumption rises across its service territory.

"Our partnership with CORE Electric Cooperative exemplifies our Community Infrastructure initiative and commitment to delivering value and benefits close to home," Walsh said.

"Leading municipal utilities and electric cooperatives play a vital role in meeting the moment of increasing demand while prioritizing local businesses and residents. We are proud to work alongside CORE as we deploy community-first energy infrastructure throughout the country."

On the cooperative's side, Chris Hildred, Chief Energy Supply Officer at CORE Electric Cooperative, emphasized the transition from development to execution. "Moving these battery storage projects from planning into construction puts us closer to delivering real benefits for our members," Hildred said.

"As electricity demand grows, this storage will help us manage peak demand, control power costs, and maintain reliable service. We're pleased to take this next step with Madison as we prepare for our communities' future."

The Community Infrastructure Initiative

Battery storage is described as a key part of Madison's Community Infrastructure initiative, which aims to help communities add capacity, strengthen local energy systems, and prepare for growing demand from data centers, advanced manufacturing, and other forms of economic growth.

With dedicated capital and experience delivering distributed energy projects across the country, Madison said it is focused on bringing storage technology to more communities at scale.

The company positions itself as modernizing energy for industry and communities, with a portfolio bolstered by the strength of EQT and its capital partners.
