Larsen & Toubro's Transportation Infrastructure business vertical has secured a large order from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) to construct 156 Route Km (RKM) of high-speed ballastless track for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor. The contract, designated as Package T1, falls within the company's “Large” project classification, indicating a value between INR 2,500 to 5,000 crore.
Project Scope and Technical Specifications
The comprehensive scope includes design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of track-works on a Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis. The track construction will span between Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla complex and Zaroli village in Gujarat. The project encompasses over 21 km of track-works in underground sections, corresponding to Civil packages C1 and C2, along with 135 km of track on elevated viaduct sections under Package C3.
The track-works will utilize Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology, which enables speeds up to 320 kmph while providing better ride quality, increased service life, and enhanced maintainability. This represents advanced ballastless track technology implementation for India's first high-speed rail corridor.

L&T's Expanding Role in MAHSR Project
This marks the second track-work package that L&T has secured for the MAHSR project. In April 2022, NHSRCL awarded the company Package T3, covering 116 km from south of Vadodara city to Sabarmati depot, which is currently progressing rapidly. With the addition of Package T1, L&T now holds responsibility for over 50% of the total track works in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project.
Mr S V Desai, Whole-time Director & Sr EVP (Civil Infrastructure) at L&T, commented on the latest order win: “Our success in the T3 package involved rapid technology absorption, indigenization of plant & machinery, and value engineering. This has been a key factor in our approach to this new order, and we are confident of delivering on time.”
