Renewables Jinko ESS has announced an agreement for a 140MWh grid-scale energy storage project with leading UK-based energy developer AGR Renewables. The project represents a significant milestone for both companies in advancing energy storage infrastructure within the UK market.

Project Specifications and Timeline

The energy storage project will feature 28 units of Jinko ESS's G2 5MWh liquid-cooled containerized systems. First deliveries are scheduled for November, with commissioning set for Q1 2026.

The G2 system has been engineered specifically to endure the UK's challenging environmental conditions, including temperatures as low as -10°C in high-latitude areas and persistently damp weather. The liquid-cooled containerized systems combine rugged engineering with intelligent performance capabilities.

Each unit provides 5MWh of storage capacity, collectively delivering the project's total 140MWh capacity across the 28 deployed systems.

Company Leadership Perspectives

Roberto Murgioni, Jinko ESS's General Manager for Europe, commented on the significance of the project collaboration. "This project collaboration marks a high level of recognition of Jinko ESS's technology in the UK market," Murgioni stated.

He emphasized that "The G2 system is uniquely suited to UK conditions and will play a significant role in supporting the nation's clean energy transition." Oliver Breidt, founder of AGR Renewables, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "We are delighted to partner with one of the industry's leading utility scale battery storage system suppliers to support the delivery of our growing portfolio in the UK," Breidt said.

He noted that securing this contract marks a significant milestone in de-risking project delivery and reinforces AGR's long-term vision and commitment to advancing energy storage infrastructure within the UK.

Technical Adaptations for UK Conditions

The G2 system's design specifically addresses the unique environmental challenges present in the UK market. The system's engineering accounts for the country's high-latitude areas where temperatures can drop to -10°C, as well as the persistently damp weather conditions that characterize much of the UK climate.

The liquid-cooled containerized design provides both durability and performance optimization for these challenging conditions. The system's intelligent performance capabilities are integrated with the rugged engineering approach to ensure reliable operation across varying environmental conditions throughout the UK.
