The Caracoli project is located in northern Colombia's Atlántico Region. The energy awarded will be purchased by a group of recognized off-takers and will begin delivering renewable energy in 2023 through a 15-year power purchase agreement denominated in Colombian Pesos.
The indigenous community consultation procedure for the solar PV project is already complete (Consulta Previa), and construction is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2022.
Following the recent granting of the country's first utility-scale, stand-alone 45 MWh battery storage project in Barranquilla, this project marks Canadian Solar's second major achievement in Colombia.
"This achievement reinforces Canadian Solar's leadership position in Latin America and solidifies our entry into the Colombian market," said Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO.
"The solid market fundamentals and growth potential in Latin American markets excite us. In this region, we want to extend our varied portfolio of solar PV and battery storage projects, and we'll continue to support the Colombian government's goals for accelerating the deployment of clean, renewable energy."
