Iberdrola has signed a €2.5 billion syndicated credit facility with a consortium of 32 international banks, underscoring strong market confidence in the company’s financial strength and long-term energy transition strategy. The facility was oversubscribed by 45%, a signal of robust investor appetite and trust in Iberdrola's creditworthiness and sustainable investment focus.

Strategic Financial Flexibility

The five-year multi-currency credit line, which includes two one-year extension options, is among the most competitively priced in Iberdrola’s financing portfolio. The company described the deal as a demonstration of its ability to mobilize capital at scale, a crucial element in supporting its growing global pipeline of renewable energy and grid infrastructure investments.

Avangrid, Iberdrola’s U.S. subsidiary, is also participating in the facility, aligning with the company’s accelerated expansion plans in the North American market.

Executive Commentary

Ignacio Galán, Iberdrola’s Executive Chairman, welcomed the agreement as a reaffirmation of the group’s strategic direction:

“This new financing strengthens our capacity to continue expanding investments in networks, renewables, and storage. The confidence shown by leading financial institutions confirms Iberdrola’s role in promoting energy independence, economic growth, and social development.”

Sustainability-Linked Financing

The credit line is sustainability-linked, with its pricing tied to Iberdrola’s achievement of decarbonisation targets and compliance with the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities. As a result of this latest deal, over 97% of Iberdrola’s credit facilities now qualify as sustainable finance.

The facility also further solidifies Iberdrola’s liquidity position, which stood at €20.9 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2025, giving the utility ample flexibility to navigate market volatility and fund its strategic investments.

A Benchmark for Green Finance

Iberdrola has consistently positioned itself as a pioneer in sustainable finance, being among the earliest adopters of green bonds and sustainability-linked loans in the utility sector. This transaction adds to a series of landmark financing deals aimed at supporting the global transition to a low-carbon economy.

The company remains one of the world’s largest investors in clean energy infrastructure, with a pipeline spanning Europe, the Americas, and emerging markets. The successful closure of this credit facility confirms the strength of Iberdrola’s financial model and its alignment with long-term global energy goals.
