ENERCON and Polat Enerji Sign Deal for 23 E-175 EP5 E2 Turbines for Balıkesir 1 wind farm
ENERCON (wind turbine manufacturer) and Polat Enerji (renewable energy investment and development company) have signed a supply agreement for 23 of ENERCON's newest flagship turbines to be installed at the Balıkesir 1 wind farm in northwestern Türkiye, marking a milestone that will push the two companies' combined installed capacity in the country past the one-gigawatt threshold.
The contract was signed in Istanbul, with ENERCON Regional Head for Central Asia, Middle East, and Africa, Arif Günyar, and Polat Enerji CEO Evren Güvenç formalizing the agreement. The deal covers 23 units of the E-175 EP5 E2 turbine model, which will make up the 161-megawatt Balıkesir 1 project.
A Project Born From Turkey's YEKA Tender System
The Balıkesir 1 wind farm is part of Türkiye's YEKA 2025 tender round. Polat Enerji recently received the award for the project from the Turkish Ministry of Energy, according to ENERCON's announcement.
The YEKA program is the Turkish government's mechanism for allocating large-scale renewable energy capacity through competitive procurement, and the Balıkesir 1 project represents one of the latest awards under that framework.
ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer said the project will mark a significant combined milestone for both companies. "With Polat Enerji, we have a long-standing close collaboration in the expansion of wind energy in Türkiye," Bauer said. "With Balıkesir 1, we will together have realized over one gigawatt of installed capacity in Türkiye."
Polat Enerji's CEO described the project as evidence of the company's ongoing growth since it began investing in renewable energy in Türkiye approximately 25 years ago.
"Our journey began a quarter of a century ago with an early and firm belief in the potential of renewable energies in Türkiye," Güvenç said. "Today, Polat Enerji has developed into a strategic player managing large-scale investments in Türkiye and in Europe."
ENERCON's Newest Flagship Turbine at the Center of the Deal
The E-175 EP5 E2 is ENERCON's current top-of-range onshore turbine, carrying a rated output of 7.0 megawatts and a rotor diameter of 175 meters. The company describes it as one of the highest-yielding onshore wind turbines in Europe and positions it as the central pillar of its market strategy and the foundation of its product portfolio.
For the Balıkesir 1 project, the 23 turbines will be installed on steel towers. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2027, with commissioning expected by the end of December 2027.
The contract represents a further step in the commercial rollout of the E-175 EP5 E2 in Türkiye. ENERCON noted in its announcement that just days before the Polat Enerji signing, it had also signed a separate contract at the WindEurope trade fair in Madrid with operator RT Enerji, covering the supply of 20 E-175 EP5 E2 turbines totaling 140 megawatts for another Turkish project.

Local Content Requirements Driving Manufacturing Strategy
A key dimension of ENERCON's approach to the Turkish market is its localization strategy, which the company says is designed to meet the local content requirements embedded in Türkiye's YEKA tender system.
To satisfy these requirements for projects using the new E-175 EP5 E2, ENERCON will manufacture selected main components of the turbine model within Türkiye, working with long-standing Turkish production partners.
Arif Günyar, who heads ENERCON's CAMEA region, said the localization commitment is a signal of the company's broader intent in the market. "We are clearly committed to the Turkish market and to the energy transition in Türkiye," Günyar said. "We look forward to a new chapter of cooperation with Polat Enerji and other Turkish customers and interested parties."
The decision to produce key components locally reflects a strategy ENERCON has described as proven in the Turkish context, building on manufacturing relationships already established in the country over prior years of project delivery.
A Partnership Spanning More Than Two Decades
The relationship between ENERCON and Polat Enerji predates the current contract by a considerable margin. According to Polat Enerji's CEO, the company's entry into renewable energy came roughly 25 years ago, with ENERCON representing a consistent technology partner across that period.
The Balıkesir 1 project, once completed, will push the two companies' accumulated joint capacity in Türkiye beyond one gigawatt of installed wind power.
Güvenç framed the company's progress in terms that extend beyond raw capacity figures. "We measure our progress not only by energy generation but also by our optimization capabilities and the flexibility of our systems," he said.
"By leveraging our end-to-end expertise — from investment to operation — we strengthen our position as a pioneering player shaping the transformation of the entire energy landscape."
ENERCON, headquartered in Aurich in Lower Saxony, Germany, has been active in onshore wind energy since 1984 and has an installed global capacity of more than 65 gigawatts.
The company employs around 13,000 people across administrative, sales, production, and service locations worldwide. Türkiye is identified by the company as an important international strategic target market.
