Industrie De Nora S.p.A. (multinational electrochemistry company) has received the final tranche of orders from thyssenkrupp nucera AG & Co. KGaA for the Moeve green hydrogen project in Andalusia, Spain, completing a supply contract valued at between USD 34.29 and USD 45.72 million for electrolytic equipment totalling 300 megawatts of capacity.

Final Orders Complete the Moeve Supply Contract

The Milan-listed electrochemistry company announced that the latest award from thyssenkrupp nucera, the joint venture responsible for the project, rounds out orders that had begun arriving in May of this year.

 

Together, the tranches constitute De Nora's full scope of supply for the initiative, which centres on the delivery of electrolytic cells equipped with high-performance anodic and cathodic coatings.

The orders relate specifically to the first phase of the Moeve project, known as Onuba, situated within Moeve's Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. The project is expected to become the largest alkaline water electrolysis installation for green hydrogen production in Southern Europe once it reaches operational status.

 

Scale and Capacity of the Onuba Installation

The facility, when operational, is projected to produce approximately 45,000 tons of hydrogen per year. Alongside that production figure, the project is expected to contribute to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of around 250,000 tons annually.

The 300 megawatts of electrolytic capacity that De Nora is supplying represent the full extent of its technological contribution to the Onuba phase. The company's electrolytic cells, featuring the high-performance coating systems the company specified in its announcement, are described as central to the alkaline water electrolysis process that will underpin the facility's operations.

De Nora's Role as Technology Partner

De Nora's involvement is as a supplier to thyssenkrupp nucera, which is the joint venture entity that placed the orders. The Italian company, founded in 1923, describes itself as a global leader in electrochemical processes and technologies for water management, with activity across the chlor-alkali, electronics, battery, water treatment, and green hydrogen sectors.

The company operates across multiple regions including the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It has been listed on the Euronext Milan stock exchange and operates under ESG principles that it states are integrated into all of its activities.

Paolo Dellachà, Chief Executive Officer of De Nora, addressed the significance of the contract in a statement accompanying the announcement. "The involvement in the Moeve initiative, which is set to become the largest green hydrogen project in Southern Europe, reinforces our position as a technology partner of choice for the most ambitious energy transition projects," Dellachà said.

 

He added that growing demand for reliable and efficient green hydrogen solutions underscores the increasingly central role of electrolysis in supporting the decarbonization of industrial processes on a global scale.

The overall contract value, ranging between USD 34.29 and USD 45.72 million across both tranches of orders, encompasses De Nora's complete scope of supply for the Onuba phase of the Moeve project.

The initial tranche of orders had been disclosed to the market in May, with the July announcement confirming that the remaining portion had been received and that De Nora's contractual role in the project was now fully defined.

 

The company uses the 1INFO system, managed by Computershare S.p.A. and authorised by CONSOB, for the dissemination and storage of its regulated information.
