About Australia’s Hydrogen Headstart Program

The Hydrogen Headstart Program is a major initiative by the Australian Government to jumpstart the country's renewable hydrogen industry. Launched in October 2023 with a budget of $2 billion, the program aims to bridge the gap between the current cost of producing renewable hydrogen and the market price, paving the way for large-scale production and export.

The program is specifically designed to support large-scale hydrogen production projects. This is crucial for driving down the cost of hydrogen and making it competitive with fossil fuels.

The program is expected to have wide-ranging benefits for the Australian economy and environment. It will create jobs, attract investment, and help to decarbonize various sectors, including transport, manufacturing, and energy.
