ASML, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world, is planning for a major expansion in the Dutch city of Eindhoven The company and the city of Eindhoven have signed a letter of intent to explore an expansion large enough to accommodate 20,000 new employees. The proposed expansion site is a relatively undeveloped area in the north of Eindhoven, near the city's airport.
This decision follows an announcement last month that the Dutch government would spend USD 2.7 billion to improve infrastructure in the Eindhoven region. This investment aims to prevent the company from moving significant operations abroad. ASML's CFO, Roger Dassen, stated that the company prefers to keep its core activities in the Netherlands as close as possible to the existing locations. He mentioned that the availability of talent, infrastructure, housing, and a positive investment climate are preconditions for investment.
The proposed expansion is expected to take place at the Brainport Industries Campus. This technology campus is located in the north of the city, close to Eindhoven's airport. ASML is the Netherlands' largest company and Europe's largest technology firm. Currently, 24,000 out of its 40,000 employees are based in the country. The company dominates the market for lithography systems, which use light beams to help create the circuitry of computer chips.
