Amazon Web Services unveiled its plans to invest USD 10 billion to build new data center campuses in Mississippi. This ambitious project will see the construction of two sprawling data center complexes, solidifying Mississippi's place on the digital map and boosting its economic landscape. The multi-phase development will take root in Madison County, nestled within two designated industrial parks.
The project is expected to generate over 1,000 new jobs. These jobs will span various areas, from construction and engineering to data center operations and maintenance, offering diverse professional opportunities for residents.
Roger Wehner, AWS’ director of economic development, said, “Since 2011, AWS has invested more than $108 billion in its infrastructure across the U.S. to support customers of all kinds and across all industries in their digital transformation."
AWS has partnered with the state to launch workforce training programs, equipping Mississippians with the skills needed to thrive in the burgeoning tech sector. This collaborative approach empowers individuals and paves the way for a future-proof workforce.
With the help of a sizable $10 billion investment from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other new opportunities, the Mississippi data center market is transforming. Currently, Mississippi only has a handful of operational data centers, with two major providers: C Spire and Lumen Technologies. Existing offerings primarily cater to colocation services, where businesses can lease space and power for their IT equipment.
