Microsoft has filed for a data center project in Floyd County, Georgia, submitting a Development of Regional Impact application on October 20 that outlines plans for a three-building data center campus on 349 acres of land at 0 Huffaker Road in Rome.

The company acquired the property in 2023, at the time referring to the acquisition as "Project Firecracker."

Microsoft targets 2032 completion for the ATL80 project

The project has been dubbed ATL80, and all three buildings will total up to 1,659,000 sq ft (154,126 sqm) of floor space. Microsoft estimates the project will be valued at USD 360 million once built out and will provide USD 35 million in annual local tax revenue.

The company estimates the project will be completed by 2032 and will employ 150 people once operational.

Power and water requirements detailed

According to the filing, the total power capacity for the campus will be 422 MW, provided by Georgia Power. Microsoft estimates that the maximum water supply required will be 13,500 gallons (51,103 liters) per day.

Rome is located northwest of Atlanta, which is Georgia's main data center hub.

Filing follows recent ATL50 application

The Floyd County filing comes just one month after Microsoft submitted a Developments of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for ATL50, a two-building campus in Union City totaling 910,000 sq ft (84,540 sqm) on an 88-acre parcel west of Stonewall Tell Road and north of Koweta Road.

That site is set to launch in 2032.

Broad footprint across Georgia

The company has a number of data center projects across Georgia, both operating and under development, including in Fairburn, Douglasville, Palmetto, Rome, East Point, Tyrone, and more. Atlanta is home to one of Microsoft's major "Fairwater" data centers, which launched in November 2025.

Microsoft announced plans for a cloud region in Georgia in 2021. In December last year, the company revealed that the Fairwater site would be incorporated into the region, as would developments in Fulton County, outside of Atlanta, where the company broke ground in July 2024.

The cloud region plans also include two other projects on the outskirts of Atlanta: in East Point, Fulton County, and in Douglasville, Douglas County.

Powering Ahead: Why Data Center Leaders in the US Track Every Megawatt Before the Ground Breaks

The United States is in the middle of an unprecedented data center buildout, driven by AI workloads, cloud expansion, and hyperscale commitments. But with land, power, and fiber resources tightening, the developers and contractors who win are the ones who spot opportunities first. Waiting for press releases means arriving late to markets where timing is everything.

That's where the Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research changes the equation. It surfaces early-stage intelligence on data center developments across the United States, from site acquisitions to commissioning, so your team can engage decision-makers while deals are still taking shape.

Whether you sell cooling systems, power infrastructure, construction services, or connectivity, the platform gives you a verified pipeline of opportunities mapped to your business.
