Amazon announced that it will invest $12 billion in central Mississippi, expanding existing data center operations in Madison County and funding a planned retrofit in Clinton.

The investment represents a significant expansion of the company's presence in the state, with the Madison County work involving about $11 billion and the Clinton project planned at $1 billion.

Job Creation and Investment Breakdown

The Madison County expansion is expected to create 700 jobs, while the Clinton project is expected to hire 100 people, according to Amazon. The governor's office said the latest announcements bring Amazon's total planned capital investment in Mississippi to $25 billion, with more than 2,000 jobs created.

The Madison County expansion builds on a 2024 Amazon plan to invest at least $10 billion and create 1,000 direct jobs for data center campuses. The current announcement follows a November 2025 announcement of a planned $3 billion project in Vicksburg to create at least 200 positions.

Clinton Project Details

Amazon said the Clinton project will retrofit the former Delphi Corporation plant and represents the company's first location in the city. The company added that the investment will strengthen Amazon Web Services' data center infrastructure for generative artificial intelligence and cloud services.

The Clinton facility marks Amazon's entry into the city, utilizing an existing industrial site for its data center operations. The $1 billion investment in Clinton will complement the company's broader Mississippi expansion strategy.

Government and Corporate Response

Gov. Tate Reeves said Amazon was "betting on our people" and hailed the investments as transformational. "$25 billion in two years is providing Mississippians with high-tech, high-paying opportunities, strengthening our communities and showing the world that our state is open for business," Reeves said, according to a news release.

David Zapolsky, Amazon's chief global affairs and legal officer, thanked Reeves and local leaders and said, "We're just getting started," the company said. The announcement also noted ongoing investments in workforce training through the state's community colleges and universities.

Infrastructure and Utility Partnerships

Entergy Mississippi said its commitment to meeting long-term power needs was a key factor in Amazon's decision to expand. Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO, said developing strong relationships and meeting speed-to-market needs helped attract Amazon and that the partnership is producing benefits for customers and the region.

The utility company's role in supporting Amazon's expansion highlights the infrastructure requirements needed to support large-scale data center operations in the region. The partnership between Entergy Mississippi and Amazon demonstrates the coordination required between private companies and utility providers for major technology investments.
