ADM and Tallgrass Open World's Largest Bioethanol Carbon Capture Facility in Columbus, Nebraska

ADM and Tallgrass have celebrated the opening of the world's largest bioethanol carbon capture facility at ADM's Columbus, Nebraska Corn Processing Complex. The project began operations on November 10, 2025, marking a significant milestone in carbon capture and storage technology.

The facility captures carbon dioxide from ADM's ethanol plant in Columbus and transports it through Tallgrass's Trailblazer pipeline to Tallgrass' Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub for permanent underground storage. This project establishes the Columbus complex as the largest bioethanol carbon capture facility globally.

Pipeline Infrastructure and Capacity

The Trailblazer pipeline, previously a 400-mile natural gas transmission line, spans Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska. The pipeline system has the capacity to transport more than 10 million tons of CO2 per year. According to calculations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this capacity is equivalent to removing more than 2 million passenger vehicles from the roads, or approximately 25% of all registered motor vehicles in the three states combined.

As part of the project implementation, Tallgrass constructed a lateral line connecting ADM's facility to the pipeline system. The company secured all necessary easements from landowners voluntarily in this connection.
