Zero Footprint Industries Limited launched the second phase of its green hydrogen project in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, with a groundbreaking ceremony, marking a significant step in the company's expansion plans within the state. The company has outlined an ambitious investment plan of up to USD 118.7 million by 2030 as it seeks to strengthen its presence in India's growing green hydrogen sector.

Production Capacity Expansion

ZFI plans to dramatically increase its annual production capacity from 2.5 million cubic meters to 100 million cubic meters by 2030. The company had previously established India's first merchant green hydrogen plant in Rampur in February 2025, with an initial investment of USD 3.24 million. The current second phase will involve an additional investment of USD 5.40 million.

Environmental Impact and Strategic Partnerships

The expansion is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits, with ZFI estimating a reduction in carbon emissions equivalent to planting nearly 300,000 trees annually. As part of its growth strategy, the company has formed a partnership with Waaree Energy to roll out green hydrogen plants across the country.

This collaboration aims to combine renewable energy with hydrogen production to create cost-effective solutions for the market. ZFI has also established a partnership with Vision Mechatronics Pvt Ltd to introduce a green hydrogen-based cooking system designed for both household and industrial applications. This system could provide an alternative to conventional fuels currently used in cooking applications.

Transportation and Industrial Applications

The company is exploring hydrogen-based transport solutions, including applications for buses, cars, and trucks. ZFI plans to establish on-site green hydrogen projects specifically for industrial users as part of its strategy to expand its reach across various sectors. These initiatives support India's broader push for cleaner energy and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.

Experts indicate that green hydrogen will play a crucial role in reducing emissions in sectors that are particularly difficult to transition to cleaner fuels. The project aligns with national efforts to promote sustainable energy alternatives and reduce the country's carbon footprint.

Government and Industry Participation

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by several key officials and industry representatives. Prasad Chaphekar from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy participated in the event, along with Rampur MLA Akash Saxena and Pujan Doshi. ZFI was represented by its directors Amit Modi, Anurag Agarwal, and Mallika Modi, along with other company officials.

The project represents a significant milestone in India's green hydrogen development, building on ZFI's position as a pioneer in the merchant green hydrogen space. The company's comprehensive approach includes partnerships across the value chain, from renewable energy integration to end-user applications in cooking, transportation, and industrial processes.
