YIT Corporation (construction and urban development company) has secured a contract worth approximately USD 342.6 million to design and build a new data center for atNorth (data center services company) in Myllykoski, Kouvola, Finland, the Finnish construction company announced on July 21, 2026. The deal marks one of YIT's largest single data center commitments to date and will be recorded in the company's order book for the third quarter of 2026.

Project Scope and Timeline

YIT will deliver the project under a comprehensive design-build contract, covering design, civil and structural architecture, mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, and commissioning.

Construction is set to begin immediately following the agreement, with completion targeted by the end of 2027. The contract encompasses the full range of technical disciplines required to deliver a facility of this scale and complexity.

The new facility will form part of atNorth's FIN04 data center campus in Myllykoski. The planned total capacity of the entire FIN04 campus is 430 megawatts, making it one of atNorth's largest developments in the Nordic region. atNorth has described FIN04 as one of its most strategically important growth projects in Finland.

Renewable Energy and Heat Reuse

The data center will operate on renewable energy and is designed with the capability to enable the reuse of excess heat it generates. According to YIT's announcement, this excess heat could feed into the local district heating network, aligning the facility with broader energy efficiency objectives at a regional level.

The heat reuse component reflects a growing trend among large-scale data center operators in the Nordics to integrate their facilities into local energy infrastructure rather than treating waste heat as a byproduct to be discarded.

YIT's Position in the Data Center Market

YIT has positioned itself as Finland's leading data center builder, and the Kouvola project adds to a portfolio that already includes other significant data center work in the country.

Aleksi Laine, Executive Vice President of YIT's Infrastructure segment, said the company continues to see significant growth potential in the data center market.

"Data centers are technically demanding projects, and as Finland's leading data center builder, YIT has a strong track record in delivering them. Our expertise enables us to meet the sector's high requirements for quality, safety, and reliable project delivery," Laine said in the announcement.

Laine added that YIT is well equipped to support customers' investments in future projects, signaling the company's intention to pursue further contracts in the sector beyond the current deal with atNorth.

YIT's broader business footprint spans seven countries across Europe, with the company employing approximately 4,100 professionals. In 2025, the company reported revenue of USD 2.06 billion.

atNorth's Growth Strategy in Finland

The FIN04 campus in Myllykoski represents atNorth's fourth data center site in Finland, underlining the company's sustained expansion in the Nordic market. atNorth has framed the project explicitly around meeting rising demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing capacity.

Toni Germano, Director of Delivery at atNorth, said YIT's experience in complex data center delivery gave the company confidence to begin construction without delays.

"This project strengthens our ability to meet the rapidly growing demand for AI and high-performance computing capacity across the Nordic region," Germano said.

atNorth describes itself as a data center services provider and one of the leading operators in the Nordics. The company's expansion in Finland reflects the country's growing attractiveness for hyperscale and AI-oriented data center investment, driven in part by access to renewable energy sources and the potential for heat recovery integration with existing district heating networks.

Order Book Impact

The USD 342.6 million contract will be recorded in YIT's order book for the third quarter of 2026, providing a substantial addition to the company's backlog. The Infrastructure segment, under which the project sits, has been an area of active deal-making for YIT.

In the same period, YIT separately announced multiple road construction contracts in Lithuania totaling USD 34.26 million, reflecting the segment's diverse project pipeline across different European markets.

The Kouvola data center deal is among the larger individual project announcements in YIT's recent history and underscores the scale of capital being directed into digital infrastructure across Finland and the broader Nordic region.

With atNorth targeting 430 megawatts of total campus capacity at FIN04 alone, the Myllykoski site is poised to become a significant node in the region's data center landscape once construction reaches completion at the close of 2027.
