Vattenfall has started early work on proposals for a new onshore wind farm near the villages of Adlingfleet, Garthorpe, Fockerby and Luddington, in an area spanning the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
Early-Stage Proposals for an Eight-Turbine Project
The project, known as Adlingfleet Wind Farm, is currently proposed to comprise up to eight turbines with a potential generating capacity of around 56 megawatts.
If approved, the wind farm could generate enough homegrown electricity to power approximately 45,000 to 50,000 homes each year. The estimate is based on projected capacity using the RenewableUK UK Wind Energy Database methodology, according to the company.
Vattenfall says that increasing the supply of onshore wind can strengthen UK energy security, reduce exposure to volatile imported fossil fuel prices and help keep electricity costs down for bill-payers.
Studies and Community Feedback to Shape the Design
The project remains at an early stage, and no final turbine layout has been decided. Environmental and technical studies will examine a range of issues, including landscape and visual effects, ecology and biodiversity, ornithology, hydrology and flood risk, noise, traffic, aviation, cultural heritage, and cumulative effects.
The findings of these studies, alongside feedback from local communities and other stakeholders, will inform the design of the project. Vattenfall submitted a scoping report to East Riding of Yorkshire Council and North Lincolnshire Council in September 2026, setting out the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
Robin Stewart, project manager for Adlingfleet Wind Farm, said: "Adlingfleet could produce homegrown electricity while creating opportunities for local businesses and workers. The project is at an early stage, and environmental evidence and local feedback will help us develop the most appropriate design for the site."

Potential Benefits for the Local Economy
If developed, the project could support local jobs, contracts, and spending during both construction and operation, according to Vattenfall. The company says it will work with local businesses and communities to identify opportunities for skills development, supply chain participation, and community investment.
Timeline for Consultation and Construction
Local people will be invited to comment on the proposals once the environmental and technical work has progressed and early design proposals are available. The current expectation is that public consultation will take place in spring or summer 2027.
Planning applications are expected to be submitted to the two local planning authorities in autumn 2027. If permission is granted, construction is expected to begin in the early 2030s.
No final layout or turbine model has yet been selected for the project. Further information, including the Scoping Report and project updates, is available on the Adlingfleet Wind Farm website.
Part of a Wider UK Pipeline
The Adlingfleet announcement is the latest in a series of UK onshore wind developments by Vattenfall this year. In September 2026, the company unveiled plans to develop two new onshore wind farms in East Anglia. I
n May 2026, it began an early-stage assessment for a potential wind farm on land adjacent to the existing Ray Wind Farm near Kirkwhelpington in Northumberland.
In April 2026, Vattenfall and its joint venture partner, Fred. Olsen Seawind mutually agreed with Fred. Olsen Seawind would assume 100 per cent ownership of the Muir Mhòr Floating Offshore Wind Farm.
