Utex New Energy, a Pagariya Group company, has signed an agreement to establish a battery energy storage system (BESS) assembly plant with an annual capacity of 20 GWh in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

ENcore Systems will serve as the technology partner for the project.

India's new battery storage facility: ENcore Systems' tech

The announcement made on October 12, 2026, positions the new facility among India's emerging battery energy storage manufacturing sites.

ENcore Systems, a system integration company, will provide technology solutions for the plant's battery assembly operations. The company specialises in turnkey, fully automated, and semi-automated solutions for lithium-ion battery manufacturing, covering cell-to-module and module-to-pack assembly.

Two-phase capacity expansion plan

The facility will be developed in two phases, according to the company. The first phase will begin with an annual capacity of 5.5 GWh, and the plant will scale up to the full 20 GWh capacity over the next one to two years.

This staged approach allows the facility to establish its initial production capability before ramping up to its planned maximum output. The company did not disclose details beyond the two-phase timeline in its announcement.

Automated production line with robotics

The plant will feature a fully automated production line equipped with industrial robots from Germany-based KUKA. It will be designed to handle battery cells with capacities of up to 628 Ah.

Quality checks will cover every stage of production, from incoming materials to in-process inspections and final product testing. The company stated that the quality regime spans the entire manufacturing workflow rather than being limited to end-of-line testing.

Digital manufacturing and traceability

Production at the facility will be managed through a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integrated with SAP. According to the company, this system will provide real-time visibility into production output, quality, traceability, and operational performance.

The integration of the MES with SAP connects shop-floor production data with the company's broader enterprise systems, enabling continuous monitoring of manufacturing performance across the plant.

Technology partnership role

In a statement, Utex said that ENcore Systems "will play a key role as the technology partner in setting up the plant. The partnership will bring together technology and manufacturing expertise to establish the production facility.

The focus will be on building a reliable, automated manufacturing setup that supports quality control, production monitoring, and the planned expansion of capacity."

ENcore Systems' specialisation in turnkey solutions for lithium-ion battery manufacturing, spanning both cell-to-module and module-to-pack assembly, underpins its role in the project. The company provides both fully automated and semi-automated solutions for battery manufacturers.

Context: India's growing storage market

The announcement comes amid significant activity in India's energy storage sector. According to a recent report from Rubix Data Sciences, India's battery energy storage system requirement is expected to rise nearly sevenfold to 236 GWh by FY2031-32, with the BESS project pipeline reaching 176.66 GWh and Gujarat and Rajasthan accounting for nearly 88 percent of installed utility-scale capacity.

Separately, Tata Power Renewables reported surpassing 5.67 GW of rooftop solar capacity in India, with 575,000 completed rooftop solar installations across residential and commercial and industrial segments, while the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana programme recently crossed the 60 lakh household mark.

These developments reflect growing demand across India's broader renewable energy and storage ecosystem, against which new manufacturing capacity such as the Nagpur plant is being planned.

Stay Ahead of India's Power Boom with Real-Time Project Intelligence

India's power sector is scaling at an unprecedented pace, with gigawatts of new generation, transmission, and distribution capacity moving from planning stages to construction every quarter. But in a market this dynamic, information scattered across press releases and outdated databases leaves developers, EPC contractors, and suppliers reacting late to opportunities that demand early action.
