Trane Technologies announced the release of the LiquidStack CDU 2.X platform on September 29, 2026, at the Yotta 2026 event in Swords, Ireland.
The company describes the product as an architecture-agnostic coolant distribution unit, or CDU, designed to deliver the cooling performance and deployment flexibility required by rapidly evolving AI infrastructure.
According to the announcement, the platform is intended to help reduce redesign risk and simplify deployment for data center operators, and it reflects the company's continued investment in advanced thermal management for high-density data center environments.
Trane Technologies, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TT, presents itself as a global climate innovator. LiquidStack, the brand behind the new unit, is described in the release as a Trane Technologies brand focused on advanced liquid cooling for scalable AI infrastructure.
A Single Design for a Moving Target
The announcement frames flexibility as a central requirement for AI, high-performance computing and hyperscale data centers as the GPU landscape continues to shift and accelerate. Trane Technologies says the CDU 2.X uses a single CDU design that supports today's industry-leading AI hardware alongside emerging solutions.
On performance, the company states that the unit offers flow capability of up to 3750 liters per minute at 3.5 bar. It is designed to meet the cooling needs of current GPU platforms while leaving headroom for next-generation platforms as rack densities increase.
Scott Smith, General Manager of LiquidStack at Trane Technologies, said in the release that operators need cooling infrastructure that can adapt as GPU platforms and rack densities evolve.
He said the CDU 2.X combines the performance and flexibility customers need today with headroom for what comes next, allowing them to configure cooling around their facility and deployment strategy rather than designing the facility around the CDU.

Key Features Outlined by the Company
Trane Technologies lists several features for the platform.
The first is broad architecture compatibility, with the unit designed to support multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms from a common CDU architecture.
The second concerns deployment simplicity. The company says an ultra-low-harmonics variable frequency drive, or VFD, architecture is designed to address harmonic distortion at the source. According to the release, this reduces the need for additional power-quality components and simplifies system architecture and deployment.
A third feature is configurability around the facility. Flexible control valve, power-feed and redundancy options allow the CDU 2.X to be configured around different facility and deployment architectures, per the announcement.
The platform also offers what the company calls a flexible distribution architecture. End-of-row and rack-adjacent deployment support is intended to give operators greater flexibility to address increasing rack densities and future architectures.
Trane Technologies says the unit is designed to support next-generation GPU platforms, including NVIDIA Vera Rubin and beyond, which it cites as the source of the platform's performance headroom for next-generation AI.
On the electrical side, the company points to a flexible power architecture. Dual-feed A/B and automatic transfer switch options let operators configure the CDU 2.X around different facility resiliency requirements.
Finally, the release describes the platform as designed for high-efficiency operation. Lower approach temperatures and facility inlet temperatures up to 45°C support efficient liquid cooling system architectures, according to the company.
