TotalEnergies Selects EPC Contractor for $1 Billion Marsa LNG Terminal Project

TotalEnergies selects France-based Technip Energies to perform Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) works on the USD 1 billion Marsa LNG terminal project. Technip Energies received the letter of intent from TotalEnergies earlier this month. The project, located in the northern city of Sohar, Oman, will involve constructing a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering and export facility.

Technip Energies' expertise in LNG terminal construction and its existing presence in Oman likely played a role in its selection. The company boasts a strong track record of delivering similar projects around the world, including the Qalhat LNG terminal in Oman, which it completed in 2010.

While the official contract award and final investment decision (FID) are still pending, this marks a significant step forward for the project. TotalEnergies is the one leading the joint venture named Marsa LNG. Marsa LNG was formed in the year 2021 through an agreement with the Oman Sultanate. 

The Marsa LNG terminal is expected to play a crucial role in Oman's energy sector. The facility will boast both LNG bunkering capabilities, catering to marine vessels, and export capacity, aimed at international markets. The project is estimated to create significant job opportunities in Oman and contribute to the country's economic growth.
