TKIL Industries Partners with Swiss SoHHytec for Green Hydrogen Plant in India by Next Year
TKIL Industries, formerly known as thyssenkrupp Industries India, has entered into a partnership with Switzerland-based manufacturer SoHHytec to establish a green hydrogen plant in India within the next year. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor announced the tie-up as part of its expansion into renewable energy technologies.
Technology and Production Methods
The TKIL Industries-SoHHytec partnership will utilize proprietary artificial photosynthesis technology, specifically photo-electrolysis, to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power, for industrial applications. According to the company, SoHHytec represents globally the most cost-efficient technology for producing green hydrogen.
TKIL Industries' MD & CEO, Vivek Bhatia, expressed optimism about the timeline, stating to PTI, “I'm quite hopeful, within the next 12 months, you will see us building out a green hydrogen plant with our technology.”
Business Model and Target Sectors
As an EPC player, TKIL Industries is currently in discussions with companies across various sectors, including steel manufacturers and oil marketing companies, to establish green hydrogen plants. Bhatia explained the company's approach: “We are the EPC player. We are talking to steel manufacturers. We are talking to oil marketing companies. So, whoever needs green hydrogen will invite us, and we will build the plant for them and hand it over to them.”
Under the partnership agreement, TKIL Industries will serve as the exclusive partner in India for SoHHytec, manufacturing and supplying specific equipment and machinery, as well as installing green hydrogen projects.

Investment and Expansion Plans
The company is currently focusing on developing new technologies and establishing them. Rather than constructing new facilities, TKIL Industries is presently adding more bays within existing plants to augment capacity. Bhatia outlined the company's investment strategy, stating that they will “consistently spend every year somewhere around INR 25 crore to INR 50 crore progressively to expand capacity.” He noted that once the company runs out of space in existing facilities, it will need to consider a major investment for new plant construction.
Policy Context and National Goals
The partnership aligns with India's National Hydrogen Mission, which serves as a major policy enabler for the country to reach its climate targets and establish itself as a hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia production. The mission aims to reduce India's dependence on fossil fuels while scaling up renewable energy capacity. India has set a target to achieve five million tonnes per year of green hydrogen capacity by 2030, with the goal of reducing the cost of green hydrogen production.
Additional Partnerships and Operations
Beyond the SoHHytec collaboration, TKIL Industries has also established a partnership with German manufacturer HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. in the field of battery systems for India's rail sector. TKIL Industries Pvt Ltd operates across multiple sectors, with existing operations in mining, bulk material handling systems, and cement plants.
