Thyssenkrupp nucera Completes Acquisition of Green Hydrogen Systems Technology Assets for High Single-Digit Million Euro Price
thyssenkrupp nucera, the hydrogen business of German-based engineering company thyssenkrupp, has completed the acquisition of key technology assets from Danish company Green Hydrogen Systems (GHS). The transaction was finalized upon receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals and the court-appointed insolvency administrator's consent.
The purchase price for the asset deal is reportedly in the high single-digit million euro range. The company had signed the agreement to acquire the assets from Green Hydrogen Systems earlier in 2025.
Assets and Technology Acquired
The asset deal includes intellectual property as well as a test facility with a full-size prototype located in Skive, Denmark. The acquired technology focuses on high-pressure electrolysis systems that operate with high efficiency at up to 35 bar. This high-pressure capability represents a key advantage for industrial applications that typically require hydrogen in a compressed form. In many cases, this technology eliminates the need for additional compression, according to the company.

Strategic Positioning and Technology Focus
With this acquisition, thyssenkrupp nucera seeks to strengthen its position in the field of alkaline water electrolysis (AWE), with additional focus on pressurized solutions. The test facility offers the company an opportunity to accelerate and intensify its own research and development activities in a convenient environment.
Werner Ponikwar, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera, stated at the time of the agreement signing: “With this acquisition, we are reinforcing our commitment to driving the green energy transition and deepening our technology leadership in hydrogen.”
Technology Specifications and Applications
The high-pressure electrolysis technology developed by Green Hydrogen Systems operates with high efficiency at up to 35 bar. This operational pressure level provides advantages specifically for industrial applications where compressed hydrogen is typically required. The elimination of additional compression often represents a significant operational benefit for industrial users of the technology.
The acquisition allows thyssenkrupp nucera to expand its capabilities in alkaline water electrolysis while adding specialized expertise in pressurized electrolysis solutions. The Danish facility provides immediate access to testing infrastructure and proven technology for high-pressure hydrogen production applications.
