Pune-based energy company Thermax has entered into a strategic partnership with Norway's HydrogenPro to indigenise alkaline water electrolysis technology for large-scale green hydrogen projects in India. The agreement, announced on Wednesday, includes technology licensing and stack supply with future upgrades and technical support.

Exclusive Rights and Partnership Terms

Under the agreement, Thermax will have exclusive rights in India for the supply, installation, commissioning, and after-sales service of alkaline electrolyser systems based on HydrogenPro's technology. The partnership is effective immediately, with solutions ready for deployment in ongoing Indian green hydrogen projects according to the official press release.

The collaboration grants Thermax comprehensive control over the entire lifecycle of electrolyser systems in the Indian market, positioning the company as the sole provider of HydrogenPro's alkaline electrolysis technology in the country.

Technology Transfer and Manufacturing Plans

As part of the technology transfer arrangement, Thermax will design and manufacture key systems and balance-of-plant components for integration with HydrogenPro's stacks. The companies plan to work jointly on developing advanced solutions to meet evolving market requirements.

The partnership includes the establishment of a short-stack test station at Thermax's Pune facility as an initial step in the technology transfer process. This facility will serve as a testing ground for the localized technology before broader deployment across Indian green hydrogen projects.
