FormFactor and Teradyne announced a broad technology collaboration aimed at accelerating the development, validation, and high-volume production deployment of next-generation semiconductor devices.

A Partnership Backed by Equity

Alongside the collaboration, Teradyne has agreed to purchase shares of FormFactor common stock, making a USD 300 million strategic equity investment. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

The announcement was issued by FormFactor, Inc. (Nasdaq: FORM), a provider of semiconductor test and measurement technologies, with Teradyne, Inc. (Nasdaq: TER), a provider of automated test equipment and advanced robotics.

Combining Probe, Interface, and Test Technologies

The collaboration brings together FormFactor's expertise in probe technologies, interface solutions, test engineering, and device characterization with Teradyne's advanced automated test platforms. The stated goal is to help customers address growing semiconductor complexity.

Under the partnership, the two companies will work together to advance semiconductor test architectures, optimize test infrastructure, and enhance production readiness for both existing and emerging applications.

Specific application areas named include high-performance compute (HPC), advanced packaging, high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and silicon photonics.

The companies said they believe the collaboration will accelerate innovation across the semiconductor test ecosystem from wafer to data center, expand opportunities for joint customer engagement, and support increasing demand for advanced computing, AI infrastructure, and next-generation semiconductor technologies.

Executive Perspectives

Mike Slessor, Chief Executive Officer of FormFactor, framed the partnership in terms of competitive advantage for the industry. "The semiconductor industry is entering a period where test performance, scalability, and time-to-market are becoming decisive competitive advantages," Slessor said.

"By combining FormFactor's deep expertise in device characterization, probing, interfaces, and production test solutions with Teradyne's test platforms, we can help customers accelerate innovation and move more efficiently from technology development to high-volume manufacturing."

Teradyne President and Chief Executive Officer Gregory Smith emphasized that some test challenges exceed the capabilities of any single vendor. "The most demanding test challenges in advanced packaging, silicon photonics, and memory can't be solved by a single company," Smith said.

"By investing in FormFactor and combining our leading-edge test platforms with FormFactor's probe and interface expertise, we're building a more complete, validated path to production for our shared customers and reinforcing our commitment to an open, interoperable ecosystem."

Context on the Two Companies

FormFactor describes itself as a leading provider of essential test and measurement technologies along the full integrated circuit life cycle, spanning characterization, modeling, reliability, and design debug through qualification and production test.

Semiconductor companies use the company's products and services to optimize device performance and advance yield knowledge, and the company serves customers through facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Teradyne designs, develops, and manufactures automated test equipment and advanced robotics systems. According to the company, its semiconductor and electronics test solutions span the full AI device supply chain, from wafer to data center, enabling customers to meet quality and reliability standards for the AI era. Its advanced robotics business deploys intelligent automation across manufacturing, logistics, and data center operations.

Both companies are publicly traded on the Nasdaq exchange under the tickers FORM and TER, respectively.

From Silicon Valley Fabs to the United States Heartland: Stay Ahead of Every Semiconductor Megaproject

By the time a new fabrication plant makes headlines, the biggest contract opportunities have already been locked in months, or even years, earlier. In the semiconductor industry, where a single facility can represent a billion-dollar investment, early intelligence is the difference between winning a seat at the table and watching from the sidelines.

With the United States pouring unprecedented federal incentives into domestic chip manufacturing, a wave of fab construction, supplier facilities, and R&D expansion is reshaping the market. Companies that track these projects from the announcement stage capture far more value than those that react to breaking news.
