Techno Electric Reveals $1Billion Investment For 250 MW Data Centers
Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd. has launched its digital infrastructure arm, Techno Digital Infra Pvt Ltd., with a USD 1 billion investment plan to develop an integrated network of hyperscale and edge data centers across India, targeting a 250 MW cumulative capacity. The investment will be used to build data centers in various locations, including Kolkata and Noida, with the goal of providing scalable, secure, and low-latency digital infrastructure to metro and non-metro regions. This move is driven by the company's vision to support India's growing data economy, which is poised for exponential growth.
The launch of Techno Digital marks a significant milestone for the company, as it leverages its domain expertise in power infrastructure and sustainability to build a reliable and eco-conscious network of data centers. Padam Prakash Gupta, Managing Director of Techno Electric & Engineering Co Ltd., stated that the decision to enter the digital infrastructure space is both timely and visionary, given India's growing data economy. He added that the company's legacy in power infrastructure and EPC makes it a natural enabler of this transformation.
Techno Digital's journey begins in Chennai, where it is building a 36 MW hyperscale data center within SIPCOT IT Park, Siruseri. This facility will integrate renewable energy with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for continuous sustainability, adiabatic cooling for water efficiency, and a facility design PUE of 1.35. The data center will also have a 25% green cover, making it an environmentally friendly option. Amit Agrawal, President of Techno Digital, stated that the company is not just building data centers, but powering India's digital revolution.
The company's hybrid strategy integrates hyperscale and edge data centers, which will redefine how data is hosted, processed, and delivered. This infrastructure is designed to support the next decade of digital growth, empowering ecosystem partners to offer unique solutions around cloud, security, and managed services. The goal is to make cutting-edge technology ubiquitous and affordable, supporting sectors such as AI, OTT, fintech, and governance. With its partnership with RailTel Corporation of India Ltd., Techno Digital will develop Edge Data Centers in 102 cities across 23 Indian states.
The partnership with RailTel is expected to be one of the largest deployments of its kind, bringing low-latency computing closer to users in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This will empower sectors such as AI, BFSI, telecom, OTT, e-sports, healthcare, e-governance, and manufacturing. The project will have a significant impact on the country's digital landscape, supporting the growth of various industries and providing access to digital services for millions of people. As India continues to grow its digital economy, investments like this will play a crucial role in supporting the country's digital transformation.
In addition to its current projects, Techno Digital plans to expand its operations to other locations, including Kolkata and Noida. The company's commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness will be a key factor in its expansion plans, as it aims to build a reliable and environmentally conscious network of data centers. With its strong legacy in power infrastructure and EPC, Techno Digital is well-positioned to support India's growing data economy and provide scalable, secure, and low-latency digital infrastructure to various regions.
The growth of India's data economy is expected to drive demand for data centers and digital infrastructure, making investments like Techno Digital's USD 1 billion plan crucial for supporting the country's digital transformation. As the country continues to grow its digital economy, companies like Techno Digital will play a significant role in providing the necessary infrastructure to support this growth. With its focus on sustainability, scalability, and security, Techno Digital is poised to become a key player in India's digital landscape.
