Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 Powers Up Nordics' Largest Commissioned Battery Storage Project in Ånge, Sweden

A 70 MW / 160 MWh battery energy storage system in Ånge, Sweden, has entered commercial operation, marking the largest commissioned battery energy storage system project in the Nordic region.

 

Sungrow supplied its utility-scale PowerTitan 2.0 technology for the project, which was developed by Delta Capacity and brought online after 15 months from procurement start to commercial operation.

A Landmark Project for Nordic Energy Storage

The Ånge battery energy storage system is situated in Sweden's bidding zone SE2, a designation that positions it directly within the country's power balancing infrastructure.

 

The project is designed to provide frequency regulation and energy arbitrage services across the Nordic power market, which is known for significant price volatility.

 

Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 system was selected specifically for its ability to operate under demanding Nordic weather conditions and extreme temperature variations.

The project is owned by a joint venture between WOOD & Company Renewables Sub-Fund and Delta Capacity, the Swiss-based storage developer that led the project from initial design through to completion. The facility was acquired from RES in February 2025, and commercial operation was achieved within the same year.

Centrica Energy has been contracted to manage the buying and selling of electricity for the facility on a continuous basis. Other suppliers involved in the project include Stenger & Ibsen Construction, Rejlers, Green Power Monitor, Solvina, and Ellevio.

 

Speed of Deployment as a Strategic Priority

The 15-month timeline from procurement to commercial operation has been highlighted by project leaders as a defining feature of the Ånge development. Patrik Hes, CEO of Delta Capacity, described the pace of delivery as essential to meeting the demands of the Nordic energy transition.

 

"The Nordic energy transition is moving fast and requires infrastructure that keeps the same pace. Sweden has great renewable resources, but flexibility is missing, and that is exactly what Ånge provides," Hes said. "160 MWh of storage, delivered in 15 months. Delta Capacity's goal is to keep building faster and at a greater scale. The energy transition cannot wait."

Samer Nameer, Country Manager Sweden at Sungrow, echoed the emphasis on speed and scale. "Ånge is a great example of how large-scale energy storage is built in practice. Fast, at the right scale, and with the right partners like Delta Capacity. Our role is to be a long-term partner and contribute to expanding renewable energy capacity in Sweden," Nameer said.

Sweden's Expanding Battery Storage Market

The Ånge project arrives at a moment of accelerating growth in Sweden's battery storage sector. According to a report from SolarPower Europe cited in the announcement, Sweden and Finland together installed more than 1 GWh of new battery capacity in 2025.

 

Sweden's regulatory framework has enabled battery storage assets to participate in balancing markets, creating revenue-generating opportunities for project owners and operators.

The country's energy transition has been a catalyst for this growth, with the need for flexible assets becoming increasingly apparent as renewable energy penetration rises.

 

The Ånge facility is positioned to serve as a source of that flexibility, providing rapid response capabilities to help stabilize a grid increasingly reliant on variable generation sources.

Sungrow's European and Nordic Footprint

For Sungrow, the Ånge project adds to a growing portfolio of activity across the Nordic region and Europe more broadly. The company currently operates 25 local offices, two research and development centers, and 26 warehouses across Europe.

 

Its Swedish team, which includes dedicated experts in services and energy solutions, is based in Stockholm, with additional Scandinavian offices in Malmö, Copenhagen, and Helsinki.

Recent Nordic projects credited to Sungrow include what the company describes as the Nordic region's largest solar roof in Sweden at 14 MW, and the northernmost solar project in Finland at 70 MW. The Ånge BESS represents the company's continued expansion into large-scale storage in the region.

Globally, Sungrow reports that as of December 2025, it has installed over 1,000 GW of power electronic converters worldwide. The company has been recognized by BloombergNEF as the world's most bankable PV inverter and energy storage company and operates a network of 520 service outlets internationally. Founded more than 29 years ago, the company describes its mission as bridging to a sustainable future through renewable energy technology.

Delta Capacity's Broader Ambitions

The Ånge project represents one piece of a considerably larger development pipeline for Delta Capacity. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Switzerland, the company currently has nearly 800 MWh of battery storage capacity under construction across Europe. Its stated target is to build out, commission, and operate more than 6 GWh of flexible assets by 2030.

Delta Capacity describes its approach as focused on asset quality, with an emphasis on designs that support high availability, efficient performance, and what it characterizes as bankable operating outcomes.

 

The company's team brings experience across large infrastructure, renewable energy, energy trading, and software development, according to the announcement.

The Ånge project, with its combination of scale, speed of delivery, and commercial readiness, is being presented by both Sungrow and Delta Capacity as a template for how utility-scale battery storage can be deployed efficiently to meet the growing flexibility needs of Northern European power systems.
