Sungrow has been selected to supply a 152 MW / 606 MWh battery energy storage system for Verano Energy's Observatorio project in Chile, pairing large-scale storage with a 135 MW solar photovoltaic plant in what the companies describe as a milestone for energy storage development in the country.
Deal Scope and Technology
The agreement, announced on August 17, 2026, covers the delivery of Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage solution configured for a four-hour discharge duration.
Alongside the battery system, the Observatorio project will integrate a 135 MW solar photovoltaic plant equipped with Sungrow SG350HX-20 inverters, creating a combined solar-plus-storage facility designed to capture renewable generation and dispatch it during periods of higher grid demand.
The supply contract is accompanied by a 25-year Long-Term Service Agreement, under which Sungrow will be responsible for maintaining the system's operational availability, performance, and reliability across its full lifecycle.
Sungrow described the dual arrangement of hardware supply and long-term service as central to its strategy for supporting energy transition projects globally.
Project Purpose and Grid Role
According to the companies, the Observatorio project is intended to strengthen the stability of Chile's power system and support the integration of renewable energy sources into the national energy mix.
The combination of solar generation with utility-scale storage is designed to reduce curtailment of renewable energy and provide greater flexibility to grid operations, addressing challenges that arise as variable generation sources account for a larger share of electricity supply.
Verano Energy characterized Observatorio as a strategically significant project within its Chilean portfolio, citing energy storage as a key mechanism for maximizing the value of its solar assets and responding to what the company described as a market increasingly oriented around renewable energy integration.
The project is intended to demonstrate how storage can be embedded into renewable generation infrastructure rather than added as an afterthought.

Tomás Anuch, Chief Operating Officer of Verano Energy, said the project represents a further step in the company's positioning as a renewable energy generator across the Latin American region.
Anuch pointed to the storage component as the element that unlocks the full potential of the solar resource, noting that it provides greater flexibility to the power system and allows Verano to deliver solutions aligned with the demands of an evolving energy market. He also cited Sungrow's involvement as providing confidence that the project will meet high standards of performance and reliability.
Gonzalo Feito, Regional Director of Sungrow LATAM, said the company is proud to have been entrusted with supplying the energy storage solution for Observatorio.
Feito framed the agreement as reinforcing Sungrow's commitment to developing high-performance energy infrastructure and accelerating the energy transition in Chile specifically.
Chile's Growing BESS Market
Both companies highlighted Chile's position as one of the most dynamic markets in Latin America for battery energy storage system development. The country's solar resources and ongoing grid modernization efforts have made it a significant destination for large-scale storage investment, and the Observatorio project adds to a growing pipeline of utility-scale deployments in the region.
Sungrow noted that it has operated in Latin America since 2017 and has contributed to the deployment of more than 25 GW of solar projects and 11.5 GWh of energy storage systems across the region.
The company holds the top position in Wood Mackenzie's Global Battery Energy Storage System Integrator Comprehensive Ranking and has been recognized by BloombergNEF as the world's most bankable PV inverter and energy storage company.
As of December 2025, Sungrow has installed over 1,000 GW of power electronic converters worldwide across more than 29 years of operation, supported by a network of 520 service outlets.
Verano Energy's Track Record
Verano Energy describes itself as an international holding company operating across three integrated divisions covering energy development, financing, and commercialization, as well as the construction, operation, management, and maintenance of renewable energy projects.
The company reports having designed and built more than 60 solar power plants across Latin America, with over 800 MWp of installed photovoltaic capacity and 600 MWh of battery energy storage systems already in its portfolio. Verano has also raised more than 800 million US dollars in financing to support its project development activities.
The Observatorio project, once operational, will add materially to the company's storage portfolio, with the 606 MWh system essentially matching the total battery energy storage capacity the company had previously deployed across its entire Latin American asset base.
Verano framed the project as consistent with its broader goal of building infrastructure that actively advances the transition toward a net-zero emissions energy future.
