Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has signed a corporate power purchase agreement for its Formosa 6 Offshore Wind Project with Star Trade, an international power services and energy management provider, marking the second such deal struck between the two companies following a similar agreement for Formosa 4 in late 2025.
A Deepening Commercial Relationship
The agreement, announced on September 9, 2026, builds on the existing partnership between Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) and Star Trade. The two companies first formalised a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) for Formosa 4 toward the end of 2025, and the addition of Formosa 6 to that commercial relationship means Star Trade has now contracted more than 10% of the combined capacity across both projects.
SRE described the level of uptake as reflecting robust corporate demand for long-term green electricity supply and the growing role offshore wind plays in meeting it.
Lucas Lin, Chairperson at SRE, pointed to the significance of the milestone for Formosa 6 specifically. "With Formosa 4's capacity fully subscribed late last year, we are pleased to see Formosa 6 reach an important milestone with this CPPA," Lin said.
He also noted that the expanded partnership with Star Trade would help more businesses in Taiwan access green electricity while supporting the country's broader energy transition.
Project Background and Scale
Formosa 6 is SRE's fourth offshore wind project in Taiwan and the first located in central Taiwan. The project was awarded 800 megawatts in the second auction round of Taiwan's Phase 3 Zonal Development in 2024. It is situated approximately 35 kilometres off the coast of Xianxi Township in Changhua County and covers an area of around 84 square kilometres.
Once operational, Formosa 6 is expected to generate sufficient clean electricity to power approximately 860,000 households annually. SRE has described the project as a contribution to Taiwan's energy resilience, framing it within a wider context in which governments are placing increasing emphasis on energy security against a backdrop of shifting global political and economic conditions.

Renewable Energy as Strategic Infrastructure
SRE's announcement positioned the agreement in a broader context beyond environmental considerations alone. The company noted that renewable energy is increasingly being viewed not only as an environmental priority but as a strategic asset for strengthening energy security and economic resilience. This framing reflects a notable shift in how offshore wind developers are presenting their projects to both commercial and policy audiences in the region.
Lin reiterated SRE's long-standing commitment to the Taiwan market, referencing the company's shareholder backing as underpinning its continued activity in developing, constructing, and operating offshore wind farms in the country.
"That long-term commitment extends beyond our own sustainability ambitions," Lin said. "We work to help green power drive sustainable development by bringing together green electricity supply and market demand."
Star Trade's Growing Exposure to Taiwanese Offshore Wind
For Star Trade, the agreement represents a significant expansion of its contracted offshore wind capacity in Taiwan. Having first entered into a CPPA with SRE for Formosa 4, the addition of Formosa 6 means the company now holds contracted positions across two of SRE's offshore wind projects.
The combined contracted share, exceeding 10% of both projects' capacity, positions Star Trade as one of the more notable corporate buyers in SRE's Taiwan portfolio to date.
The deal also illustrates the continued appetite among corporate energy buyers for long-term, fixed arrangements with offshore wind developers, a dynamic that has become increasingly prominent across Asia-Pacific markets as companies seek to secure stable supplies of renewable electricity and meet their own sustainability commitments.
SRE's Taiwan Portfolio
SRE, which describes itself as a pioneering offshore wind developer in the Asia-Pacific region, has been active in Taiwan's offshore wind sector across multiple project phases.
Formosa 6 represents the company's fourth project in the country. With Formosa 4's capacity reported as fully subscribed following last year's CPPA activity, SRE is now progressing commercial arrangements for its subsequent projects.
The company is headquartered in Taipei and operates under the name Synera Renewable Energy Group, having previously been known by other branding. Its projects span different regions of Taiwan, with Formosa 6 marking its first entry into the central Taiwanese offshore zone off Changhua County.
