Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group), which develops offshore wind projects in the Asia-Pacific, has announced that it will continue its partnership with Taiwan-based Century Group for the 800 MW Formosa 6 Offshore Wind Project. This project is Taiwan's largest offshore wind farm by capacity and marks the biggest collaboration of its kind within the local offshore wind industry to date.

Wind Turbine Foundation Supply Agreements

Under the agreements, Century Wind Power will provide 57 jackets while Century Huaxin Wind Energy, newly appointed as a Tier-1 supplier, will supply 180 pin piles for the project. These foundational components are vital to the infrastructure of Formosa 6, supporting its planned grid connection in 2029, according to the official statement.

Century Group's Chairman, Wen-Hsiang Lai, described the deal as “a major milestone for Century Group in Taiwan's Phase 3.2 offshore wind development.” He added that “SRE's strong support for local content enables us to sustain our fabrication pipeline through 2028.”

Project Development and Timeline

Formosa 6 is SRE's inaugural offshore wind project in central Taiwan. The project secured 800 MW of development capacity in Phase 3.2, the second auction round of Taiwan's Phase 3 Zonal Development, in mid-2024. The project submitted its administrative contract on schedule in late 2024, becoming the first among second-round winners to achieve this milestone.

The project aims for a 2029 grid connection, bringing substantial renewable energy capacity to Taiwan's power mix and supporting the island's energy transition goals.

Project Location and Specifications

Located approximately 35 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County in the Xianxi Township, the 84-square-kilometre wind farm is expected to produce enough clean energy to power around 860,000 households annually once operational.
