SJVN Gets Approval to Form Four Joint Ventures for 8 GW Hydro and Renewable Power Projects

The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) under the Ministry of Finance has approved the proposal by SJVN (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam) and the Ministry of Power to establish four joint venture (JV) companies for the development of hydro and renewable projects in Nepal and India.

In three of the joint ventures, SJVN will be the leading partner, while in the fourth joint venture, SJVN's wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Ltd., will take the lead.

SJVN is a significant player in the Indian power sector, playing a crucial role in meeting the country's growing demand for electricity. The joint ventures will focus on developing renewable energy projects in both India and Nepal. The list of joint ventures is provided below:

 

 

SJVN & Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd

SJVN will form a joint venture with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company to develop 5000 MW of renewable energy projects.

 

SJVN, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, & Navyuga Engineering Company Ltd

The joint venture will develop and execute the 1,878-MW Oju hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh.

 

The Oju Hydro-electric Project is a proposed run-of-river hydropower project on the Subansiri River in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. The hydroelectric project is estimated to produce 9871 million units (MU) annually.
 

SJVN Nepal Electricity Authority & GMR Energy Limited

This joint venture will implement the 900 MW Upper Karnali hydroelectric project in Nepal.

 

With a total estimated cost of USD 1.5 billion, the Asian Development Bank is helping to partially fund the project. The project is currently under construction, with completion estimated for 2024.

 

SGEL & Assam Power Development Company Ltd.

SGEL, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, will form a joint venture with Assam Power Development Company Ltd. This joint venture will be developing a 1000 MW renewable energy project in the state of Assam.
