A joint venture between TotalEnergies and its partner SSE Renewables announced that the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm is fully operational and running at a capacity of 1075 MW. The total estimated project cost is around USD 4 billion. Total Energies has a 51% stake while SSE Renewables has a 49% stake in the project. Sea Green is set to become the biggest wind farm in Scotland and the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, upon completion. The project is located in the North Sea 27km off the coast of Angus, Scotland The project covers an area of approximately 2,850 square km. The project is Total Energy's biggest operational offshore wind farm.
The project started its construction in 2020 and has been completed in around 3 years, the offshore wind farm is expected to generate over 5 TWh of electricity which will power over 1.6 million homes annually. Seagreen wind farm project will also prevent the emission of over 2 million tons of CO2 from fossil fuel generation every year.
“I am very pleased to see Sea Green generating at full power making it our largest offshore wind project worldwide,” Total Energies CEO Patrick Pouyanne said. “It will help us reach the target of reaching more than 100 TWh of power generation by 2030,” he added.
Alistair Philips-Davies CEO of SSE renewables stated that the seagreen offshore wind project will make a significant contribution to energy security and extend Scotland and the UK;s clean energy generation. Recently, SSE started its operations of Dogger Bank Phase 1 which is the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
