Turkish Petroleum OTC has awarded Italian engineering company Saipem a new offshore contract worth approximately USD 1.5 billion for the third phase of the Sakarya gas field development project in Turkey. The announcement was made on September 10, 2025, in Milan, Italy.

Project Scope and Location

The Sakarya gas field is the largest offshore natural gas field discovered in Turkey and is located about 170 kilometers off the coast of Filyos, Zonguldak. The third phase of development will include a new dedicated floating production unit (FPU) that will be fed by 27 wells located in both the Sakarya and Amasra fields. These wells will be connected by a new trunkline to the onshore facility located in Filyos, on the Turkish Black Sea coast.

Saipem's scope of work encompasses the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of 8 rigid flowlines and a 24-inch diameter Gas Export Pipeline (GEP). The pipeline will be approximately 183 kilometers long and will connect the offshore field to Filyos at a maximum depth of 2,200 meters.
