Saab UK has received an order from global offshore wind leader Ørsted for a Seaeye Cougar XT Compact remotely operated vehicle.

The order expands Ørsted's fleet of Saab Seaeye systems to three Cougar vehicles, according to an announcement published by Saab on 12 October 2026.

Advanced subsea vehicle for offshore wind operations

The Cougar XT Compact has been selected to support inspection and maintenance operations across Ørsted's offshore wind portfolio.

According to Saab, the vehicle combines a compact and flexible design with the power and reliability required for offshore operations, and its electric architecture delivers precise control and manoeuvrability, making it well suited to inspection and intervention work in complex subsea environments.

Role in offshore wind operations

Ørsted relies on advanced subsea technology to help monitor the integrity of critical infrastructure, including foundations, cables, and other submerged assets.

Remotely operated vehicles play a vital role in these operations, enabling efficient inspections and maintenance activities that help maximise asset availability and support energy generation, Saab stated in the announcement.

A growing relationship

The order marks another milestone in the relationship between Saab UK and Ørsted, building on a track record of supporting offshore wind operations with robotic systems, the company said.

Jon Robertson, Seaeye Managing Director at Saab UK, welcomed the order: "We are delighted to receive this order from Ørsted. Expanding its Saab Seaeye fleet with a third Cougar system reflects the confidence the company has in our technology and its ability to support inspection and maintenance operations across offshore wind assets."

The Seaeye heritage

Saab describes Seaeye ROVs as having operated for more than four decades in some of the world's most demanding subsea environments. The company says the Cougar XT Compact continues that heritage, delivering proven capability to customers responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that supports the global energy transition.

Saab's underwater systems business is based in Fareham in the United Kingdom, and the company notes its products are sold to over 100 countries, with operations in over 30 countries.

Recent Seaeye activity

The Ørsted order is the latest in a series of developments for Saab's Seaeye range.

In August 2026, Saab UK's Seaeye SR20 eWROV, described as its next-generation all-electric work-class ROV, completed a comprehensive programme of inland water trials.

In January 2026, the Seaeye Lynx played a role in the survey and documentation of the 18th-century galleon San José, a Colombian cultural heritage asset.

The company also delivered its 600th Seaeye Falcon to DISA International in July 2025, and in 2022 two Saab Sabertooth robots were used in the hunt for the wreck of Shackleton's Endurance in Antarctic waters.
