RWE (renewable energy company) has confirmed the completion of construction at its Enoch Hill onshore wind farm near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, Scotland, marking the second Scottish onshore wind project the company has brought online in 2026 and adding to a combined 106 megawatts of new generation capacity delivered this year.

A Second Scottish Wind Farm in 2026

Commissioning of the turbines at Enoch Hill was completed in May 2026, following the completion of RWE's Camster II wind farm in Caithness, which was finished in April.

Together, the two projects bring 106 megawatts of new clean generation capacity into RWE's Scottish portfolio. The company currently operates nine onshore wind farms in Scotland with a combined maximum installed capacity of 229 megawatts. Enoch Hill received planning consent in September 2019, with construction beginning in June 2023.

The first electricity was generated in April 2026. The 70-megawatt project consists of a mix of Nordex N133/4.8 turbines and Nordex N117/3600 Delta4000 turbines, and is expected to be capable of providing enough electricity to power around 68,000 typical UK homes. The principal contractors on the project were Farrans and Nordex.

Local Supply Chain at the Centre of Construction

Throughout the construction phase, RWE and its contractors placed a deliberate emphasis on directing spending toward local and regional suppliers.

According to RWE, over 38 percent of Farrans' construction spend went to suppliers located within 20 miles of the site, with a further 23 percent directed to suppliers within 50 miles. Some 68 percent of all subcontracts were awarded to local suppliers, and more than 26 percent of all subcontracted spend was retained in the region.

Nordex also contracted local companies in key operational functions, including MW Hir of Ayrshire, The Bacas of Dalmellington, and Maneight Farm of Cumnock.

Patrick Murray, Regional Director for Farrans, said the company was proud to have worked in partnership with RWE on Enoch Hill, building on the prior delivery of Camster II.

Murray noted that Farrans' experience in onshore wind construction and its longstanding operations in Scotland positioned it well to lead the project. He added that by directing a share of project spend to local suppliers and subcontractors, the company had not only delivered critical new renewable infrastructure but also helped strengthen the local economy and supported employment in East Ayrshire and beyond.

Mike Short, Director of Project Management for Nordex UK and Ireland, said the project had been driven by a shared focus on safety, quality, and teamwork from the first component deliveries in August 2024 through to energisation and turbine test runs in 2026.

Short acknowledged that the project had faced challenges outside of the team's control but said the partnerships remained strong throughout. He described it as genuinely rewarding to see Enoch Hill fully operational and ready to generate clean electricity for years to come.

Community Benefits and Long-Term Investment

Beyond its generation capacity, Enoch Hill has unlocked a new USD 14.18 million community fund focused exclusively on New Cumnock during the first five years of the wind farm's operation. RWE appointed Foundation Scotland to manage the fund during the early stages, a decision taken as a direct response to public consultation.

The project is also expected to deliver ongoing local benefits across its operating lifetime, including the payment of local business rates, opportunities for Scottish businesses to participate in operations and maintenance activities, and support for local employment and skills development.

Nadine Janecke, RWE Chief Development Director for Renewables Europe and Australia, said the completion of Enoch Hill's construction represented another important milestone in RWE's delivery of clean, secure domestic power into Scotland.

Janecke highlighted that projects like Enoch Hill provide support for local communities and economies, with local jobs, skills, and suppliers at their heart. She said RWE would continue to invest in local communities as it delivers its pipeline of projects, with the aim of helping build a secure, affordable and sustainable energy system for the long term.

The completion of Enoch Hill continues RWE's expansion of its onshore wind presence in Scotland. With the addition of both Enoch Hill and Camster II in 2026, the company's operational Scottish portfolio now spans eleven onshore wind farms. RWE describes itself as one of Scotland's leading clean power generators.

The Enoch Hill site is located near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire. Component deliveries to the site began in August 2024, with turbine testing and energisation carried out in the months leading up to commissioning in May 2026.
