Reliance Power Signs Agreement with Bhutan to Develop 500 MW Solar Energy Project at Capital Outlay of Rs 2000 Crore Reliance Power has signed a commercial term sheet for a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Green Digital Private Limited, a company owned by the government of Bhutan, to jointly develop Bhutan's largest solar power project.
The project will have an installed capacity of 500 MW and will be developed through a 50:50 venture under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model. The capital outlay for the project is expected to be up to Rs 2000 crore, representing the largest private sector foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bhutan's solar energy sector to date.
Project Details
The 500 MW solar plant will be developed in partnership with Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), with Reliance Power commencing the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tendering process. The project is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing regional clean energy integration and enhancing cross-border infrastructure collaboration across South Asia.
Financial Impact
The project entails a significant investment of up to Rs 2000 crore, marking a major commitment to Bhutan's solar energy sector. This investment is expected to be the largest private sector FDI in Bhutan's solar sector to date, underscoring the potential for growth and development in the region.
