QatarEnergy has signed two new production sharing contracts for offshore Blocks 9 and 10 in Suriname, expanding the company's presence in the South American country's promising petroleum basin. The agreements were announced on November 5, 2025, from the company's headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

Block Awards and Partnership Structure

The blocks were awarded to a QatarEnergy consortium during the POST SHO2 bid round held in June 2025. Under the signed agreements, QatarEnergy will hold varying working interests in each block, partnering with major international energy companies. In Block 9, QatarEnergy will hold a 20% working interest, while PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V. will serve as the operator with a 30% stake.

Chevron will also hold 20%, and Paradise Oil Company, an affiliate of Staatsolie, will hold the remaining 30% working interest. For Block 10, QatarEnergy will hold a larger 30% working interest. Chevron will operate this block with a 30% stake, PETRONAS Suriname will hold 30%, and Paradise Oil Company will have a 10% working interest.

Executive Statement on Expansion

His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who serves as the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, expressed satisfaction with the new agreements. He stated that the conclusion of these production-sharing agreements will increase QatarEnergy's Suriname footprint to 7 offshore blocks, allowing the company to further explore the region's promising basins.

Al-Kaabi emphasized the company's pleasure at cooperating with partners Chevron, PETRONAS Suriname, and Staatsolie, and expressed anticipation of working with them on these blocks. He also took the opportunity to thank the Surinamese authorities and partners for their excellent collaboration and support, which led to the signing of these agreements.

Block Characteristics and Strategic Location

Both Blocks 9 and 10 are located offshore Suriname in water depths of up to 50 meters. The blocks are strategically positioned adjacent to recent discoveries that have significantly enhanced the basin's petroleum potential, suggesting favorable exploration prospects for the consortium partners. The shallow water depths and proximity to proven hydrocarbon discoveries position these blocks as potentially valuable additions to QatarEnergy's international portfolio, as the company continues to expand its exploration activities beyond its traditional Middle Eastern operations.
