Palisade Investment Partners (Australian investment firm) has agreed to acquire a 100 percent interest in the Summerfield Battery Energy Storage System from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (Denmark Investment Firm), marking the firm's second large-scale battery investment through its Australian renewable energy platform Intera Renewables.

Project Details and Location

The Summerfield BESS is a 240MWac / 960MWh battery energy storage system located approximately 50 kilometers east of Adelaide in South Australia. Construction on the project began in February 2025, and Palisade is acquiring the asset partway through that construction phase.

Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in late 2026. The project carries a long-term tolling agreement in place with Origin Energy, providing a contracted revenue framework underpinning the investment.

Blue Power Partners (Global Consultancy) will be retained to manage construction through to commercial operations, after which Palisade's operational management services arm, Palisade Integrated Management Services, known as PIMS, will take over asset management activities.

Palisade's Growing Renewables Portfolio

With the addition of Summerfield, Palisade's renewable energy portfolio totals approximately 2.5 gigawatts of capacity on a 100 percent ownership basis, including 2.2 gigawatts located in Australia.

The firm holds assets in both Australia and the United States. Simon Parbery, Partner at Palisade, said the acquisition represents the firm's second investment in large-scale energy storage, providing both attractive risk-adjusted returns to investors and long-term strategic value to our Australian renewables platform, Intera Renewables.

Intera Renewables and Fund Structure

Intera Renewables is Palisade's Australian renewable energy platform and serves as the principal investment of Palisade's Renewable Energy Fund, referred to as PREF. That fund holds a 50 percent ownership interest in the Intera platform alongside Palisade's Diversified Infrastructure Fund, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Aware Super (Australian Fund), and HESTA(Australian Fund).

Intera operates with a multi-gigawatt investment strategy spanning the development, construction, and operational phases of the renewables investment lifecycle. The platform is targeting mid-teen returns for investors through a combination of what it describes as sustainable capital growth and high single-digit income yields.

CIP's Role and Broader Australian Strategy

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners developed the Summerfield project and has overseen it from the development stage through to its current advanced construction phase.

Thomas Wibe Poulsen, Partner and APAC Lead at CIP, said the transaction demonstrates the firm's ability to manage risk across a project's lifecycle. "CIP has successfully de-risked this large-scale battery project throughout development and construction, demonstrating our ability to manage risk and deliver value to our investors."

Poulsen added that CIP is actively developing other large-scale projects in South Australia and across Australia more broadly, signaling the firm's ongoing commitment to the Australian market following the divestment of Summerfield.
