Open DC, a data center solutions company based in Penang, Malaysia, has officially launched PE2, a new facility with an initial capacity of 10MW that is scalable to 30MW. The company announced the launch in a recent statement, noting that PE2 started operations in April 2025.

Facility Specifications and Capabilities

PE2 is positioned as Penang's largest and most advanced data center, specifically equipped for AI and large language model applications, according to Open DC's claims. The facility is located on a 10-acre campus in the Bayan Lepas Technology Park, strategically positioned close to Penang International Airport with easy access to major highways and industrial zones in the area.

The data center deploys multiple cooling solutions, including advanced air, chilled water, and direct-to-chip systems, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.5. PE2 also provides renewable energy agreements, solar solutions, and eco-efficient systems as part of its operational framework.

Connectivity and Infrastructure

The facility serves as the home of the Penang Internet Exchange, which is powered by DE-CIX Malaysia. Open DC states that leading telecom partners, including TM, Maxis, Extreme Broadband, and PDC Telco, back the data center. According to the company's website, these partnerships guarantee low-latency performance and robust interconnection for the facility.

The strategic location near transportation hubs and industrial zones ensures seamless connectivity for the data center's operations and client access.
