Odisha Signs MoU's with Three Entities to Boost Semiconductor Fabrication

The Government of Odisha has signed MoUs (Memoranda of Understanding) with three entities to boost semiconductor fabrication manufacturing. The three Entities include the IESA (India Electronic and Semiconductor Association), Synopsys & Electronics, and the ESC (Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council). 
 

IESA will facilitate capacity-building programs and promote the semiconductor ecosystem through events and campaigns. Synopsys will be involved in areas such as the O-Chip program, workforce development, and placement assistance to students of the state’s engineering institutions. ESC will promote electronics and IT/ITeS exports from the country.
 

Recently, the Odisha government has successfully hosted Odisha4Silicon-2023, an initiative to set up a robust semiconductor fabrication manufacturing ecosystem in the region. The state government has notified its ‘Semiconductor Manufacturing and Fabless Policy 2023’, which will offer competitive and comprehensive incentives to investors. The government has also launched the Odisha Semiconductor Fab and Fabless Innovation and Acceleration program, which aims to catalyze the manufacturing ecosystem in the state.

Earlier this year Odisha state government announced its plan to implement the O-Chip program. The O-Chip initiative will create a one-stop shop for fabless product companies and startups. Under the program, the state government will set up a centralized Semiconductor fabrication laboratory (FabLab) where the aspiring engineers will design and build smart innovative devices and chips to meet specific needs. The program will create more than 5000 high-end jobs.
