Gujarat’s Bhuj Project Marks Partial Commissioning of 50 MW Solar Capacity by NTPC Green
NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), NTPC's renewable energy arm, has announced the partial commissioning of 50 MW of solar capacity at its 150 MW Bhuj solar project in Gujarat. The company made this announcement following the achievement of commercial operation by one of its subsidiary companies on August 24, 2025.
Commercial Operation Details
In a regulatory filing, the company stated that “Ayana Renewable Power Four Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power and a subsidiary of our joint venture ONGC NTPC Green Pvt Ltd, was declared to have achieved commercial operation on August 24, 2025.” This milestone represents a significant step in the completion of the larger 150 MW Bhuj solar project.
The partial commissioning has resulted in a substantial increase in NGEL Group's operational capacity. With this addition, the commercial capacity of the NGEL Group has risen to 7,197.575 MW, while the group's total installed capacity has reached 7,247.575 MW.
NTPC's Expanding Gujarat Portfolio
This commissioning marks the latest addition to NTPC Green's growing portfolio in Gujarat, where several renewable projects have recently become operational. The state has become a focal point for the company's renewable energy expansion efforts, with multiple projects achieving commercial operation in recent months.
Earlier this month, Ayana Renewable Power, through its subsidiaries and in joint venture with ONGC NTPC Green, announced the partial commissioning of capacity under the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project. This demonstrates the scale of renewable energy development activities currently underway in the region.
Additionally, on August 21, the company commissioned 52.8 MW of wind power, which forms part of a 100 MW wind-solar hybrid project in the state. This hybrid approach represents the integration of different renewable energy technologies to maximize power generation efficiency.

Government Infrastructure Initiative
The Bhuj project forms part of a broader renewable and infrastructure development program that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. During this event, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and launched projects with a combined value exceeding INR 53,400 crore in Gujarat. These infrastructure developments encompassed a wide range of initiatives beyond solar power generation.
The projects included transmission upgrades specifically designed to evacuate power from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, demonstrating the integrated approach to renewable energy infrastructure development. The initiative also involved the expansion of the state's transmission network to accommodate the increased renewable energy capacity.
A new ultra-supercritical thermal unit at Tapi was included in the development program, along with major initiatives at Kandla Port. The comprehensive nature of the infrastructure program extended to include new road projects, water infrastructure developments, and additional solar projects beyond the Bhuj installation.
This multi-sector approach reflects the government's commitment to developing Gujarat's overall infrastructure capacity while advancing renewable energy objectives. The partial commissioning of the Bhuj solar project represents a concrete step forward in implementing this broader infrastructure vision, contributing to both the state's renewable energy capacity and the national grid's clean energy supply.
