NTPC has re-issued the tender for a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra.

The project is being retendered following the termination of the earlier USD 43.2 million contract awarded to GR Infraprojects.
The new EPC package covers the complete BESS system and its integration with the existing power plant. NTPC has set October 22, 2026, as the bid submission deadline for the project.

Re-tender Follows Contract Termination

NTPC has issued a tender to develop a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the NTPC Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra, with bids scheduled to be submitted by October 22, 2026. The tender follows the termination of an earlier contract awarded to GR Infraprojects for the same project.

NTPC terminated the contract after GR Infraprojects failed to meet its contractual obligations, take immediate corrective measures, and achieve the required progress.

Risk and Cost of the Original Contractor

The re-tender is being undertaken at the risk and cost of GR Infraprojects, in line with the applicable contractual provisions. The project forms part of NTPC's wider program to deploy battery storage alongside its conventional power generation assets.

The company is developing storage projects at multiple locations as renewable generation increases the need for grid balancing and flexibility.

Scope of the Tender

The scope of the work covers the battery system, battery management system, energy management system, supervisory control and data acquisition system, power conversion system, protection and communication systems, and high-tension and low-tension infrastructure.

It also includes auxiliary power, fire detection and protection, remote control and monitoring facilities, and other materials and accessories required for the reliable operation and maintenance of the BESS.

Interconnection and Long-Term Maintenance

The successful bidder will also be responsible for interconnecting the storage system with the existing thermal power station facilities.

In addition, the contract includes a Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract for 11 years from the successful completion of the Performance Guarantee Test. The arrangement is intended to support sustained operation of the storage facility after commissioning.
