Northland Power Inc. has announced that its Jurassic Battery Energy Storage System has reached commercial operations, becoming the largest battery storage facility in Alberta. The company, which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol NPI, made the announcement on September 29, 2026, from Toronto.
The Jurassic BESS delivers 80 MW of power and 160 MWh of energy capacity, providing grid-balancing capability in the province. According to the company, the facility was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, marking what Northland described as another milestone in its project delivery record. The project is Northland's second storage project.
Safety Record and Construction Performance
Northland reported that the Jurassic BESS was built with zero lost-time incidents across nearly 75,000 hours worked. The company presented the safety outcome alongside the schedule and budget results as evidence of its execution on the project.
Christine Healy, president and chief executive officer of Northland Power, tied the result to the company's broader capabilities. "Achieving commercial operations at Jurassic BESS demonstrates Northland's ability to consistently deliver energy infrastructure safely, efficiently, and as planned," Healy said.
She added that the project "highlights our exceptional project execution and multi-technology capabilities and operations across electricity generation and storage."
Contracted Revenue Structure
The facility is supported by a 15-year offtake agreement that covers 100 percent of its capacity. Northland stated that the arrangement provides long-term contracted cash flows for the project.
The company did not disclose the counterparty or pricing terms in its announcement, nor did it provide the project's capital cost or the extent of the budget savings.

About Northland's Portfolio
Northland describes itself as a Canadian-headquartered global power producer that delivers electricity through offshore wind, onshore renewables, battery storage, and natural gas-fired generation.
The company has offices in seven countries. It owns, in whole or in part, 3.6 GW of gross operating generating capacity, with a further 2.4 GW under construction and a development pipeline of approximately 8 GW. Northland characterizes this as reflecting nearly four decades of experience delivering large-scale energy infrastructure.
The company has been publicly traded since 1997. Its common shares, along with Series 1 and Series 2 Preferred Shares, trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols NPI, NPI.PR.A and NPI.PR.B, respectively.
Forward-Looking Statements and Risk Disclosures
Northland's release includes a standard forward-looking information notice. The company said its statements about matters such as expectations for the operating capacity of the project and the size of its development pipeline may differ from the expectations it has stated.
It noted that such statements rely on material factors and assumptions, including the provisions of contracts to which Northland or a subsidiary is a party, and are subject to numerous risks and uncertainties.
The company directed readers to the Risk Factors section of its Management's Discussion and Analysis and Annual Information Form for the year ended December 31, 2025, available on SEDAR+ and on the company's website.
Northland cautioned readers not to place undue reliance on forward-looking statements and said it undertakes no obligation to update them except as required by law.
Company Contacts and Related Announcements
For further information, Northland listed Alison Holditch, Head of Investor Relations, and Victor Gravili, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, as contacts. The company's news page also pointed to related announcements, including its second quarter 2026 results and construction progress updates, as well as a separate item concerning debt financing at the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project.
The Jurassic announcement adds a storage asset to a portfolio that Northland says spans multiple generation technologies. The company framed the project's on-time and on-budget delivery, together with its safety record and fully contracted capacity, as the key takeaways from the commissioning of the Alberta facility.
