Nordex Group has secured an 112 MW order from NeXtWind Management GmbH for a wind farm in the Altmark region of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, marking one of the most significant repowering projects in the area.

The Hamburg-headquartered turbine manufacturer will supply and install 16 N175/6.X wind turbines at hub heights of 179 metres, with the contract also covering a 20-year Premium Service agreement.

Project Scope and Timeline

The Altmark wind farm will be constructed between the cities of Salzwedel and Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt. According to Nordex, installation of the turbines is scheduled to begin in November 2027, with commissioning planned for spring 2028.

The order encompasses both the supply and installation of the 16 turbines, each from the N175/6.X product line, which sits within Nordex's portfolio of onshore turbines in the 4 to 7 MW-plus class.

Nordex described the project as one of the most significant repowering undertakings in the region. The Altmark area was highlighted for its favourable wind conditions, which the company said make it well suited to large-scale generation projects of this nature. Saxony-Anhalt has been identified by Nordex as a state that has long played a key role in the expansion of wind energy in Germany.

Strategic Context for Both Parties

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President, Region Central at Nordex Group, said the project represents a meaningful contribution to the energy transition in Germany.

He added that Nordex appreciates NeXtWind's renewed trust, indicating the two companies have worked together previously.

For NeXtWind, the Altmark project forms part of a broader growth strategy centered on repowering existing wind farm sites. The Berlin and London-headquartered company was founded in 2020 with a specific focus on acquiring and optimising existing wind farms through repowering.

It currently operates more than 37 sites with a combined capacity of 500 MW and holds a repowering pipeline of 2 GW. The company has stated plans to expand its total generation capacity to 3 GW by 2028.

The 112 MW Altmark project, when commissioned, will represent a substantial addition to NeXtWind's operational portfolio and a step toward that capacity target.

The N175/6.X turbines ordered for the Altmark project are part of Nordex's core onshore product range. The company's portfolio is designed to address the requirements of markets with limited available space and regions facing constrained grid capacity, conditions that are particularly relevant in densely developed European markets such as Germany.

The inclusion of a 20-year Premium Service contract alongside the turbine supply agreement reflects a pattern seen across recent Nordex orders, in which long-term service arrangements are bundled with hardware sales.
