The Nordex Group announced that it has received its first order for the N175/6.X turbine featuring a hub height of 199 meters, marking a significant milestone in onshore wind turbine technology. The order comes from Westfälisch-Niedersächsische Energie GmbH & Co. KG for the 21 MW Marienmünster-Altenbergen project located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Project Specifications and Timeline

The wind farm will consist of three N175/6.X turbines, each with a nominal output of 7 MW, to be installed on Nordex's self-developed hybrid tower system. The towers feature a unique construction with concrete forming the lower section and steel comprising the upper portion. With the implementation of this project, Nordex will install its currently highest series-produced wind turbine in 2027.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin with foundation work in September 2026, with the complete commissioning of the wind farm planned for summer 2027. The turbines will reach a total rotor blade tip height of over 286 meters, combining the 199-meter hub height with the rotor diameter.

Technical Advantages and Market Benefits

The exceptional hub height of 199 meters enables the N175/6.X turbines to generate electricity even at very low wind speeds. The increased elevation allows the turbines to access more stable wind flows earlier, significantly improving system availability during periods of low wind conditions. This capability addresses a critical market opportunity, as electricity prices in Germany are often higher during periods of low wind feed-in.

The N175/6.X turbine is part of Nordex's proven Delta4000 platform and features a rotor diameter of 175 meters with a swept area exceeding 24,000 square meters. These specifications enable the turbine to achieve particularly high yields, especially when combined with very large hub heights. The turbine's ability to generate power during low wind periods contributes to a more consistent supply of renewable energy.

Industry Leadership and Technological Foundation

The Nordex Group has established a strong technological foundation for large concrete-steel hybrid towers through its proprietary concrete tower technology, which has been implemented in more than 2,500 turbines worldwide. The company has completed numerous hybrid tower projects in Finland with 168-meter hub heights, and in Germany and other European countries with 179-meter hub heights. The advancement to a 199-meter hub height represents a logical evolution of this proven technology.
