Microsoft Plans to Purchase Additional 1,030 acres for Mount Pleasant Data Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Microsoft to buy 1030 acres of land to expand Mount Pleasent Data Center located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The total estimated project cost of the data center is USD 1 billion. Regional economic development officials on Friday stated that Microsoft would purchase the remainder of the parcel of land where the company was planning to build the first two buildings as well as parcels west and north of the site, which were called Area 2 and Area 3. Furthermore, Those parcels of land were controlled by Foxconn. Microsoft will also acquire about 400 acres of privately owned farmland in Area 2.

 

Mount Pleasant Data Center Expansion

 

The data center facility will be used to support Microsoft's cloud computing services, such as Azure and Microsoft 365. The data center will also be used to support Microsoft's artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives. Earlier in May Microsoft closed a USD 50 million purchase of 315 acres of land adjacent to the Foxconn Technology group property. The sale allowed Microsoft to clear out all approvals for the construction of two data center facilities. Microsoft in a press release stated that Walsh Construction will begin laying the foundation this month. The company expects completion by late 2026.

The transaction to expand Wisconsin Innovation Park remains dependent on approval from the village and Racine County. Once approved the total property value will be around USD 1.4 billion. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers stated that the huge investment would have a positive impact creating jobs and other opportunities in the region.
