MaxSolar GmbH (renewable energy infrastructure developer) and Saft (battery manufacturer) have signed a strategic partnership agreement targeting battery energy storage development across Europe, beginning with a 30 MW project co-located at an existing wind farm in Quitzow, Brandenburg.
A Project Built on Existing Infrastructure
The first tangible output of the partnership is the Quitzow II project, developed by Denker & Wulf AG, for which MaxSolar is serving as the EPC partner responsible for turnkey construction.
The facility will deliver a power capacity of 30 MW and a storage capacity of 76.5 MWh. Rather than establishing an entirely new grid connection, the battery storage facility is being built as a co-location at an existing wind farm and its associated substation, allowing the project to leverage infrastructure already in place.
Saft, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TotalEnergies, is supplying the battery technology for Quitzow II. The company, which has more than a century of experience in battery manufacturing, provides solutions for critical industrial applications including safety systems, emergency power supply, and mobility across land, sea, air, and space environments.
Partnership Origins Traced to Intersolar Europe
The formal agreement between the two companies follows a meeting between their respective management teams at Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich, where MaxSolar and Saft agreed to expand their strategic collaboration.
The event provided the occasion for the two chief executives to formalise the arrangement, with the Quitzow II project serving as the foundation from which both parties intend to pursue further battery storage opportunities across key European markets.
Cedric Duclos, CEO of Saft, framed the partnership in terms of scale and safety requirements. "Together with MaxSolar, we are delivering high-performance battery storage solutions on an industrial scale, supported by a European team throughout the entire project lifecycle. Our advanced technologies are designed to ensure the highest standards of reliability, safety and cybersecurity. These are crucial prerequisites for building a robust and resilient energy system in Europe," he said.

What Each Company Brings to the Table
The partnership is structured around the complementary capabilities of the two organisations. Saft contributes its battery technology expertise and its track record in high-performance solutions for demanding applications. MaxSolar brings project development and implementation experience, particularly in complex energy infrastructure.
MaxSolar was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Traunstein, Germany. The company describes itself as a comprehensive infrastructure developer and operator covering the full value chain of the energy industry. Its activities span renewable energy generation, storage solutions, and regional heating and mobility concepts.
MaxSolar also offers power purchase agreements for long-term green electricity supply. The company currently has six locations in Germany and a project pipeline of 6.1 gigawatts.
Saft, headquartered in Paris, operates as a global provider of advanced battery technologies and is part of the TotalEnergies group. TotalEnergies produces and distributes energy across multiple categories including oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, as well as renewable energy and electricity.
Scope of Future Collaboration
While Quitzow II represents the first concrete project under the new arrangement, both companies have stated their intention to jointly explore and develop further battery storage projects across Europe.
The agreement is framed as a strategic partnership rather than a one-off supply contract, with the expectation that the relationship will extend beyond the Brandenburg project.
The stated objective shared by both companies is to support Europe's transition toward a more flexible, reliable, and resilient energy system. The partnership aims to combine project development expertise, battery technology, and an industrial presence in Europe to meet what both companies describe as evolving requirements of electricity markets on the continent.
Denker & Wulf AG, the developer behind Quitzow II, is also expanding its footprint in the energy storage sector through the project. The company has an existing presence in wind energy and is using the co-location model to build out storage capacity alongside generation assets already connected to the grid.
The announcement was dated 23 July 2026, with both companies based in their respective home markets continuing to operate independently while pursuing jointly developed projects under the terms of the strategic agreement.
